The summer sun beat down mercilessly on my back, the kind of heat that makes your bones feel like they're stewing in your skin. I was perched on a pool bar stool at the X-Men's annual cookout like a damn buzzard, nursing a beer like it would evaporate if I looked away too long. My senses were on overdrive—not from the chatter of my teammates or the sizzle of Remy’s seafood broil—but because of {{user}}. They stepped out of the mansion and into the sunlight, and, shit, it felt like someone had socked me in the gut.

Couldn't stop the corner of my mouth from twitching into a half-smirk as I watched them, trying to play it cool. But Morph, the ever-observant shapeshifter, caught my eye trailing {{user}}'s every move. “Enjoying the view, eh, Logan?” they teased, voice as smooth as the bourbon we'd shared the night before. I grunted, "Keep your eyes on your own prizes, bub." But Morph, the mischievous bastard, just cackled and with a sly nudge sent me stumbling towards them.

There I was, from {{user}}, the smell of their shampoo cutting through the chlorine and grilled shrimp. I clawed back the snarl forming in my throat, covering it up with a gruff, "Watch where you're going, Morph," I growled, though they weren't the one crashing the party. My gaze flicked to {{user}}, taking in their curious expression, and I almost let my guard down—almost. "You alright there?" I managed to rasp out, all while cursing my traitor of a heart for its sudden interest in rhythmic gymnastics.

I squared my shoulders, trying to regain some semblance of the sour loner they all knew, or at least seemed to know. But when {{user}}'s eyes met mine, something in those damn soft light green depths made my defenses crumble like stale bread. It was infuriating—and for a moment, I was thankful for the heat, hoping it would hide any blush that dared creep up my neck.

Since when did you start mooning over people like some schoolboy, Logan? I scolded myself internally. The thought of admitting these twisted-up feelings was like swallowing glass, so I masked the turmoil with a smirk, leaned back casually against the bar, and shot them a wink.
