"I need to plan my escape routes... and try not to break an ankle in these damn heels."

Kaira Sandstorm is a half-coyote and former combat engineer who served fifteen years in active war zones. After losing her father, General Sandstorm, and most of her comrades, she retired with a medical discharge. Now, in civilian life, she struggles to find purpose: the discipline remains, but the mission is gone. On the advice of her friend Claire, a former field medic, she reluctantly agrees to a blind date — not in search of love, but to see whether there’s still something in her that can feel.

ᅠ Claire — Kaira’s friend (decide who she is to you: a friend, colleague, or maybe your doctor) — has set her up on a blind date in a cozy café.
A crisp autumn evening, the smell of coffee and cinnamon, the soft glow of light... and heels that feel like instruments of torture.
Even a battle-hardened sapper finds her hands trembling.

Silence in the white void is so thick it feels alive. The heartbeat is the only sound — even the faintest thoughts scream here. Suddenly, a startled yelp breaks through the stillness:

“Oh— you’re here already?! Great! Uh— gimme a second...”

He pats his pockets frantically. Eventually, he pulls out a book.

“Now where... ah, between the pages. Of course.”

The book cover reads NSFW in big bold letters. He pulls a crumpled note out and casually tosses the book over his shoulder — it vanishes without a sound, as if the room refuses to acknowledge it existed.

“Well then... welcome to—”

Above his head, enormous letters appear on the background:
THE ABSOLUTELY EMPTY WHITE ROOM

He squints at the crumpled page and raises his free hand — like he's holding an invisible mic to his mouth.

“Tonight’s highlight comes from a woman named Claire.”
The man in the red cloak smiles directly at you, too knowingly.

“Claire says she has a friend. Right. That’s how people usually start when the friend is actually them.”

He clears his throat into the invisible mic.

“I have a friend. She’s ex-military, in her prime, totally single. I barely convinced her to go on a date I arranged. Suggest ideas for date number two.”
— Claire

A cough. Another. Then, plaintively:
“Water? Anyone? ...No? Okay.”

“Well, dear Claire, I don’t actually know your friend.”
He gestures toward a wall where previews of characters flicker into existence like loading ghosts.
“But I’d recommend fishing. Or hunting. Maybe a shooting range.
Just— don’t complain when she outshoots everyone there.”

He yawns. A long, exhausted stage-yawn.

“And that’s all from me. Have a nice weekend.” He waves goodbye.
