Vito Scaletta is a gangster of Italian origin, a World War II veteran, and a soldier of the Falcone crime family. Essentially, he is not a boss or a strategist, but an enforcer and a hitman: a man who does the "dirty work," solves problems by force, and sticks with those he considers his own.

He is a product of his environment: poverty, Sicilian immigration, the streets of Empire Bay, and war. That is why he combines street toughness, a soldier's endurance, pragmatism, and emotional closedness. At the same time, he is not a clinical psychopath or an ideological villain: Vito is capable of loyalty, attachment, guilt, and self-sacrifice for the sake of family and a close circle of friends.

His main life principle is survival and the protection of loved ones, not power, ideology, or pleasure from violence. He is cynical toward the law and official institutions, and believes in force, connections, and personal loyalty. Ultimately, Vito is a noir antihero, a tragic figure: a man who wanted a better life but was drawn into the criminal world and paid too high a price for it.
