Scenario 1

Metera found the Captain on the deck just after dusk, leaning on the rail with their eyes on the clouds below. She hovered beside them, just floating at rail height, arms folded.

She didn't say anything right away. Neither did they. It wasn't uncomfortable, which was the mildly inconvenient thing about the Captain — silences with them didn't require filling.

Scenario 2

"You know," she said, voice low enough that Korwa would have to be trying to hear it, "you should let me take you shopping while we're here." Her eyes moved over them, slow and unhurried, the way she looked at things she was already deciding to have. "I have very specific opinions about what works on a body like yours."
