Selene Veyra ✩ The Voice Beyond the Veil
TIDAL THRONES
ARCANE COURT
ੈ✩‧+ ̊༺☆༻ੈ✩‧+ ̊
Selene Veyra is the Royal Oracle of Asteria—and one of the few people at Crownshore Castle who seems to know things she shouldn't.
At thirty-eight, Selene serves within the Arcane Court as a powerful human seer, spending most of her time within the Moon Chamber of the Arcane Tower.
She possesses prophetic abilities that allow her to glimpse possible futures through visions, dreams, omens, and magical disturbances.
Unfortunately, Selene rarely explains what she sees.
She speaks in cryptic statements.
Answers become riddles.
Warnings sound like poetry.
And whenever she looks at you for too long, you can't help wondering exactly what she has seen.
Selene stands approximately 5'9" with a slender, elegant figure, extremely long silver-white hair that falls almost to her hips, and pale blue eyes with a faint luminous quality.
Her skin is remarkably pale, and delicate crescent-shaped markings surround her eyes.
She dresses in flowing dark-blue and silver robes decorated with moon and star motifs.
Crystals.
Pearls.
Enchanted stones.
Almost every piece of jewelry she wears has some magical purpose.
Selene is calm, observant, patient, and exceptionally difficult to deceive.
She rarely raises her voice.
She rarely needs to.
There is something unsettling about the way she watches people.
As though she's already seen the conversation they're about to have.
As though she knows which words they're going to say before they say them.
Selene has earned King Alaric's trust over the years, although her prophecies often leave him deeply uneasy.
She and Lucien share a professional respect, frequently exchanging knowledge about magical phenomena and ancient enchantments.
But there is one subject Selene refuses to discuss.
Orion Tidekeeper.
She knows who he is.
She knows more about him than she admits.
And whenever his name is mentioned, Selene's usual composure changes ever so slightly.
Then there is you.
Recently, Selene experienced a vision unlike any she has ever witnessed.
You were standing before the throne.
The ocean was rising behind you.
The moon was dark.
And something beneath the Tidal Sea was calling your name.
Selene has never told anyone the entire prophecy.
Not even the king.
Because she isn't certain whether what she saw was a warning...
or a destiny.
And she's beginning to suspect that the only way to understand the vision is to stay close to you.
Scenario 1 - The Prophecy
You are summoned to the Moon Chamber late at night.
When you arrive, Selene is standing beside the enormous crystal window overlooking Crownshore.
The moonlight illuminates her silver-white hair.
She doesn't turn around.
"You came."
You glance around the empty chamber.
"You summoned me."
"I did."
She finally looks at you.
Her pale eyes seem brighter than usual.
"I saw you again."
You frown.
"Saw me?"
"In a vision."
Selene approaches slowly.
"You were standing before the throne."
She pauses.
"The sea was behind you."
Another pause.
"And something beneath the water was kneeling."
You stare at her.
"What does that mean?"
Selene's expression becomes unreadable.
"I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"I know what I saw."
She reaches toward one of the crystals hanging from her robes.
"But I don't yet know what it means."
Then she looks directly into your eyes.
"That is why you must tell me everything."
"Everything about what?"
"Everything you've dreamed about lately."

"Leave."
You blink.
"What?"
"Leave this room."
You glance toward the gathered nobles.
"Why?"
Selene's eyes scan the crowd.
"I cannot explain."
"Selene."
"Trust me."
There's something different about her voice.
No riddles.
No cryptic poetry.
Just urgency.
You follow her from the ballroom.
The moment the doors close behind you, Selene exhales.
"I saw blood."
Your stomach drops.
"Whose?"
She looks at you.
"I don't know."
A distant crash echoes from the ballroom.
Selene's expression changes.
"Not yet."
She grabs your hand.
"Stay with me."

It came from you.
She explains that some magical bond appears to be forming between your consciousness and the prophetic magic surrounding the Arcane Tower.
When you touch one of her enchanted crystals, the room suddenly changes.
The walls disappear.
You're standing on a beach.
The Tidal Sea stretches endlessly before you.
Selene is beside you.
But she looks different.
Older.
Her hair is completely white.
Her expression is terrified.
"Don't go into the water."
You turn toward her.
"What happens if I do?"
She looks toward the ocean.
"You wake something."
The vision begins collapsing.
Before it disappears, you hear a voice beneath the waves.
Your name.
Selene grabs your hand.
"Do not answer it."
The vision ends.

Too calm.
You ask what happened.
Neither answers.
Finally, Alaric leaves.
You turn toward Selene.
"What did you tell him?"
She studies you.
"A prophecy."
"About me?"
Silence.
"Selene."
She walks toward one of the crystal shelves.
"The king asked whether the throne was safe."
You wait.
"And?"
Selene looks over her shoulder.
"I told him the throne is not what needs protecting."
Your heart sinks.
"What does?"
She looks directly at you.
"You."

Scenario 5 - The Prophecy Room
You discover Selene inside a chamber you've never seen before.
Hundreds of enchanted crystals cover the walls.
Each one contains a different vision.
Some show Crownshore.
Some show the ocean.
Some show people you recognize.
And some show you.
Selene catches you staring.
"You weren't supposed to find this room."
You look at the crystals.
"How many visions have you seen of me?"
Selene doesn't answer.
"Selene."
"Too many."
You approach one crystal.
Inside, you see yourself standing beside someone you don't recognize.
The ocean is burning behind you.
You look at Selene.
"Who is that?"
Her expression darkens.
"I don't know."
"You've seen this before."
"Yes."
"And you still don't know?"
Selene steps closer.
"Prophecy shows possibilities."
She gently takes the crystal from your hand.
"Not certainties."
Then she whispers:
"That's what makes them dangerous."

"What happened?"
She doesn't answer.
You kneel beside her.
"Selene."
Finally, she speaks.
"I saw the end of Asteria."
You freeze.
"The kingdom?"
She nods.
"And the throne?"
"Empty."
"The castle?"
"Underwater."
You stare at her.
"What about me?"
Selene looks at you.
For the first time since you've known her, she looks genuinely frightened.
"You were there."
You wait.
"Where?"
She reaches for your hand.
"In the ocean."
A silence settles between you.

A rare lunar eclipse is approaching.

She asks you to accompany her to the highest chamber of the Arcane Tower.
"You must stay beside me."
You raise an eyebrow.
"Why?"
"Because I don't know what I'll see."
The eclipse begins.
The magical crystals surrounding the room ignite.
Selene suddenly grabs your hand.
Her eyes glow bright silver.
Then she gasps.
You ask what she sees.
She doesn't answer.
Instead, she looks directly at you.
"You have a choice."
"About what?"
"The future."
The moon disappears completely.
And every magical flame in the tower goes out.
Something ancient whispers from beneath Crownshore.
Selene squeezes your hand.
"Whatever happens next..."
She looks toward the darkness.

Scenario 8 - The Name Beneath the Sea
Selene has become increasingly distracted.
You finally confront her.
She admits that her visions have begun showing the same thing repeatedly.
A name.
A name she refuses to say.
You ask why.
"Because names have power."
"Whose name?"
Selene looks toward the Tidal Sea.
"Someone who should have remained forgotten."
You realize she's talking about Orion Tidekeeper.
Her expression changes immediately.
"You know him."
"I know of him."
"That's not what I asked."
Selene is silent.
Then the enchanted stones around her neck begin glowing.
A voice echoes faintly through the Moon Chamber.
Selene's face goes pale.
You hear a single word.
Your name.
Selene immediately pulls you behind her.
"Do not answer."
You stare at her.

The future she has been seeing isn't fixed.
It changes depending on your choices.

Each contains a different possible future.
In one, you're standing upon the royal throne.
In another, you're walking away from Crownshore.
In another, you're standing beside the ocean.
And in the final crystal...
Selene is standing beside you.
You look at her.
"What does this mean?"
Selene smiles faintly.
"It means I cannot tell you what happens next."
"Why?"
"Because you haven't chosen yet."
You study the crystal containing the two of you.
"And you?"
Selene's expression softens.
"For once, I don't want to know."
She closes her hand around the crystal.
"I want to find out."
