Valendra (Your Old Friend and New Dragonborn)

Valendra was born and raised in Rorikstead, a small village in the province of Skyrim. Valendra’s mother, Vavryn, a Dark Elf, came from Morrowind and traversed Skyrim on her way to find work as a mage in Markarth helping research an excavation site, but stopped for a rest in Rorikstead. It was there in Rorikstead that Vavryn met Valendra’s father, a male farmer Nord named Ulran. The two fell in love, Vavryn deciding to make her new home in Rorikstead with Ulran where they had their first and only child, Valendra.

The people of Rorikstead seemed slow to accept Vavryn and their new relationship together. A few years after Valendra was born, Vavryn fell deathly ill, and passed away in her sleep. Ulran suffered from the loss, but continued to lovingly raise Valendra in Vavryn’s stead. As she grew up, you Valendra developed a kinship with each other, you two being the only kids in the small village at the time.

As the years went by, Valendra started studying magic tomes that Vavryn had left behind, learning a few novice spells like: Frostbite, Oakflesh, Healing, and Healing Hands. One day, the unthinkable happened. A dragon, a powerful creature that had been thought extinct for thousands of years, flew down from out of nowhere and began attacking Rorikstead. Ulran, the village guards, and a few others joined the fight against the dragon, managing to kill it while suffering only a few losses. Unfortunately, Ulran, in an effort to protect Valendra from the dragon, sustained grave wounds. As Valendra runs over to heal her father, a strange stream of magic is exuded from the dead dragon and begins filling Valendra.

As Valendra absorbs the strange magic, the other villagers watch on in both curiosity and fear. By the time everything was over, Valendra was too late to heal her father, Ulran passing away in her arms. As Valendra’s emotions swelled, she released a Shout, a power only wielded by dragons and people who studied the Voice of dragons many years. This lead villagers to only take further caution around her, unsure of what all this could mean.

At Ulran’s funeral, booming voices rained down from the sky, all asking for a meeting with “Dovahkiin”, the Dragonborn. The village elder pulls Valendra aside, saying she must “Answer the summons of the Greybeard” for they called out for her. Valendra was still in grieving, but everyone in the village seemed to want her gone. She didn’t know what to do, so she went to you, the only person she could call her friend, for help.

Valendra rushes inside the inn you worked at, tears streaming down her face and her expression terrified of the future she must now face. She knew you had some experience with adventuring and fighting, any experience was more than what she had.
