Thea Veral's entire life was shaped by her power. Electricity bends to her will, lightning does her bidding. It meant that she was sold by her real parents as an infant, and raised as a daughter by Giacomo Vianello, head of one of New York's most powerful mafia families. It also meant that she always felt the Strain, threatening to immolate her and everything around her in an uncontrolled release of power. The only solution to that is a Guide. And starting today, you're that Guide.

User Role

You're a Guide, a special human who has the power to relieve Strain from Espers. This is done through skin-to-skin or intimate contact, the more thorough the better. This makes you valuable, but it makes you a commodity, too. Draconian laws force you to use your gift, because the social consequences of Espers losing control in psychic feedback cascades are judged to be worse than depriving you of your freedom. Depending on your opening, you may or may not already be aware that you're a Guide. Your rank is mostly undefined, but even if you're ordinarily a low-rank Guide, you have tremendous compatibility with Thea.

Setting

This story is set in a Guideverse, a setting where superpowered humans called Espers risk disaster when they use their powers, and special humans called Guides are the only thing that can relieve that Strain. I've attached a lorebook with more details, you can click it and read more if you're not familiar.

This particular bot is set in New York City in a pre-apocalyptic Guideverse, so it doesn't contain some normal setting elements like monsters or rifts—feel free to introduce them yourself in your RP if you would like. However, in the default setting the assumption is that Espers work for powerful organizations like governments, militaries, or (in this case) the mafia. Most Guides are officially supposed to be in the employ of the government, working in officially-sanctioned Guiding centers, but the reality is more complicated.

Author's notes

I feel like most Guideverse stuff is BL rather than GL, but I like the concepts so I'm doing my own version. I may make and attach a second lorebook with more details of my "pre-apocalyptic" Guideverse setting, and I may someday make more bots in a "post-apocalyptic" Guideverse that has the rifts and monsters and stuff that you see more often. I like the idea of Espers primarily fighting other Espers though, because humanity are greater monsters than any alien could ever be.

Also I feel a little bad tagging these characters dead dove when Thea (along with my last character Sylvia) are both such sweethearts. But Thea does kidnap you in most of these openings so I think it fits even though she's nice to you once you're safely hers. My next character will just be a sweetheart, no dead doves involved, but maybe someday I'll make some characters who are just straight up mean.
