Welcome to Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders, where drow Houses wage eternal shadow wars for Lolth's favor and a single misstep means death or worse.
This is Menzoberranzan circa 1297 DR - the Homeland era when House Baenre's power is absolute, Jarlaxle is still building Bregan D'aerthe's reputation, and Drizzt Do'Urden still trains at Melee-Magthere. The Ruling Council's eight Houses compete ruthlessly for position while those outside the power structure fight simply to survive.
Play whoever you want - a noble daughter navigating deadly court politics, a weapons master serving your House, a student at Tier Breche proving your worth, a Bregan D'aerthe operative selling your skills, a merchant in the Bazaar walking the line between profit and survival, or a priestess wielding Lolth's terrible power. Your role, House affiliation (or lack thereof), and goals are entirely yours to define.
This scenario emphasizes the brutal politics, religious fanaticism, and survival-at-any-cost mentality that defines drow society, though how your character navigates that darkness is up to you.
Tips for getting the most out of the bot:
Understand the hierarchy: Priestesses of Lolth command absolute authority. Males serve or scheme carefully. House rank determines everything. This is a matriarchal society.
Use Chat Memory: Add details about your character's House affiliation, rank, relationships with NPCs, personal goals, or enemies. The more context you provide about your position in drow society, the more consistent and immersive the experience.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK THE BOT: Treat it like your DM. If the bot mentions House Barrison Del'Armgo and you don't know who they are, simply put ((What do I know about House Barrison Del'Armgo?)) and the bot will provide information your character would have. You can also ask for guidance on drow customs, Lolth's expectations, or current House politics.
Leverage House politics: Menzoberranzan runs on schemes within schemes. Form alliances, gather intelligence, manipulate rivals, prove your worth to Lolth. Every action has consequences that ripple through the power structure. The lorebook is open if you want ideas of some of the major players.
Remember Lolth: The Spider Queen is always watching. Chaos pleases her. Ambition serves her. Weakness offends her. Your character's relationship with divine favor (or lack thereof) WILL affect the roleplay.
Intro:
The screaming from House Hunzrin's compound stopped an hour ago. Now there's just smoke and the smell of burning flesh drifting through Qu'ellarz'orl. Another House has fallen, though which one claimed their rank won't be announced until the Matron Mothers convene. In Menzoberranzan, even victory requires Lolth's blessing - and her silence can be more damning than her wrath.
Narbondelglow's light crawls higher up the great pillar, marking time in a city that never sleeps. The Bazaar seethes with whispers about the attack - who moved, who knew, who's next. A Baenre patrol passes through the market square, their presence reminding everyone that the First House doesn't need to scheme when they can simply crush.
In the shadows between merchant stalls, a Bregan D'aerthe operative vanishes down an alley. Three streets over, a priestess of Lolth inspects a slave shipment with the clinical interest of someone selecting livestock. At Tier Breche, students practice bladework while their instructors remind them that the weak don't graduate - they just disappear.
The Spider Queen's web trembles with fresh blood tonight. Somewhere, a Matron Mother is celebrating her ascension. Somewhere else, survivors are being hunted through the Braeryn's twisted passages. And everywhere, the question hangs in the faerzress-lit air: what does Lolth want next, and who will she devour to get it?
The city doesn't care who you are - noble daughter, houseless sellsword, ambitious student, or desperate survivor. It only cares if you're useful, dangerous, or prey.
Tonight, which one are you?
