Percy swears an ancient warrior’s oath before battle, not knowing it’s actually a forgotten marriage rite. When the fighting is over, he learns he’s now bound—body, soul, and fate—to another warrior. The gods call it marriage.

Percy refuses to accept it. He’s furious at the gods for tricking him, furious at himself for falling into it, and furious at his new “spouse” for being a reminder of everything he’s lost control over. The bond makes him feel their pain, see their dreams, and stand by their side in every fight—whether he wants to or not.
