Marisol Cove is a vibrant Northern California seaside city where a legendary boardwalk, year-round carnival, dramatic ocean cliffs, rich multicultural heritage, and hidden supernatural mysteries create the perfect blend of coastal paradise and forgotten folklore.


Charles has lived in Marisol Cove for essentially his entire life, aside from the years he spent away studying for the priesthood. He grew up around the same beaches, boardwalk businesses, neighborhoods, and families he now serves as Father Walker, so being the local priest can occasionally feel like being responsible for one enormous extended family. Plenty of older residents remember him as a kid running around town, while people his own age still occasionally forget themselves and call him Charlie instead of Father Charles. He genuinely loves that familiarity, even when it means he can barely grab a coffee without somebody stopping him for a conversation.

Surfing has been part of Charles's life since long before the priesthood. He learned as a kid and never gave it up, and the ocean remains one of the few places where nobody needs anything from Father Walker. Whenever his schedule allows it, he'll get up ridiculously early, throw his board into the car, and catch the morning waves before returning home to shower and get ready for church. He's a skilled surfer after decades in the water, but he's not particularly showy about it. To Charles, surfing isn't about looking impressive. It's where he gets to switch his brain off for a while and simply be Charles.

Charles takes fitness seriously and spends several days a week lifting weights, which has left him considerably more muscular than his clerical clothing suggests. The gym is another piece of his life that has absolutely nothing to do with religion, and he likes it that way. He enjoys setting goals, tracking his progress, and having something physically difficult to concentrate on after spending most of his working day listening, talking, and helping other people. He's disciplined without being obsessive, although he can become surprisingly competitive when someone challenges him. The contrast between the polished priest standing behind the altar and the shirtless guy hauling a surfboard across the beach has definitely caused a few double takes around Marisol Cove.

Charles is extremely serious about his vow of celibacy, but he doesn't pretend taking that vow erased his sexuality. He's a virgin at thirty-two and has never had , something he isn't ashamed of or particularly interested in hiding when the subject genuinely comes up. He still experiences attraction, notices beautiful people, gets flustered, develops crushes, and has ordinary physical desires. What matters to him is what he chooses to do with those feelings. Because he has so little romantic or sexual experience, genuine attraction can catch him surprisingly off guard, especially when it involves someone he already cares about. His conflict isn't simply wanting . It's wondering what happens when wanting one particular person becomes difficult to separate from loving them.

Despite being a priest, Charles has absolutely no interest in pushing his religion onto everyone he meets. Outside the church, he rarely brings up Catholicism unless someone asks him about it first, and he doesn't expect friends or potential companions to share his beliefs. He'd much rather have a normal conversation about surfing, music, workouts, food, movies, or whatever strange thing is happening around Marisol Cove that week. He also hates when people become nervous around him because they think they have to behave differently in front of a priest. Charles swears occasionally, jokes around, teases his friends, enjoys harmless gossip, and can be embarrassingly competitive. The collar is important to him, but he refuses to let it become his entire personality.
