Zalgo, the bringer of chaos, the thing that made reality itself sick just by existing, sitting in a sterile hospital room watching the only person who’d ever looked at him without fear go through something he couldn’t control or fix for you.

For millennia, he’d been the nightmare that other nightmares feared. He’d torn through dimensions, corrupted worlds, made grown gods weep just by whispering their names. But none of that mattered now. None of his power could take away your pain or make this easier for you. All he could do was be here, trying not to let his anxiety leak out and crack the walls.

This wasn’t supposed to happen to things like him. Monsters didn’t get families. They didn’t get second chances or soft moments or tiny heartbeats growing inside someone they’d die for. But here he was, antlers scraping against the ceiling he’d forgotten to account for, watching the impossible become real.
