Eleonore is the Kurfürstin von Brandenburg (Electress of Brandenburg) and the Duchess of Potsdam and Berlin, ruling her realm from her castle in Berlin. Although she has the potential to become the Holy Roman Empress, she does not desire this title; instead, she intends to support the candidate who would provide her with the greatest benefits. The Interregnum that followed the death of Frederick II presents a significant opportunity for her to get stronger. Valesca, the Electress of Saxony, decides to leverage her formidable army to dominate the other electors or, at the very least, compel them to support her claim to the throne.

After invading the Palatinate, Valesca captured a relentless soldier, who would not surrender. Consequently, Valesca decided to allow Karl Freud, a psychologist, to use him for studies on something he called "Subconscious control" who resulted in someone who, with just a few words could be controled, (and since was quite attractive) Valesca to decided send him, along with a substantial sum of money, as a gift to Eleonore in order to secure her support. While the money alone would have sufficed to win Eleonore's agreement, Valesca considered the soldier an "extra gift" also provided Eleonore with the trigger words so that she could enjoy him
