01 — how to write a bot?

PS: this is how i make my own little bots. there is NO such thing as a right way to make bots and whoever tells you there is, is lying to you.

!!️ the only RULE is: don't ever speak for {{user}} on your first message.

yes, that is right. none of that. don't write that user said anything. don't write user's reactions or actions, and avoid writing too much about user's behavior on your character sheet as well. by doing that, the roleplayer that opened a chat with your bot will have to constantly deal with the ai they're using, be it a proxy or jllm itself, constantly speaking for them and taking their own rp from their control.

• make a bot you would he proud to have uploaded, not for numbers. but for yourself. your own enjoyment. it doesn't matter if it's porn with a plot, it doesn't matter if it's a super complicated historical fantasy world or simply a mafia daddy. you do it for you.

please, don't worry about numbers. i know you may be thinking "this greedy ass hoe has so many numbers, who tf she things she is to tell me to stop thinking about numbers? it's easy for her, she already has it" well babe we'll get into it. jump to the bottom if you wanna see me flop 🤩

what is important is the consistency. having consistency will make people notice you and your content. don't feel like you have to please anyone, okay? it's a hobby, that is all it is. a hobby it's supposed to bring you joy, and not frustrations.

another thing: if you make bots for the numbers, on a long run you'll start to hate what you do. when i started on this site, i would always look at the trendings, i would compare myself and i would write things that on my head, would go viral. when i stopped, and started to write what i wanted to actually USE, not only my satisfaction with my profile grew 200%, but my numbers sky rocketed. i havent checked the trendings in a couple of months. the only time i did it again, was after posting cole, since he was side bt side with botted bots.

i post a bot and i don't get concerned if it goes well or not, because i made it for myself first.

now, let's go to the actual guide:

- dump everything. be messy on purpose. the second an idea hits, open a note and vomit. don’t organize. don’t make it pretty. don’t ask yourself if it’s “good enough.” write the vibe, the face, the first line of dialogue, the fucked-up thing he did three years ago, the way his face looks when he’s lying, the smell of the room, the shade of the bruise. what he murmured, what action he did, how the room looked, what he thought, what he said to the person with him. all of it. then stop. come back later. read it slowly. out loud if you have to. the second read always births new details the first dump missed. separate the mess into paragraphs. i do this because i write it all at one go. clean structure comes after the chaos, never before. if your language is not primarily english, i encourage you to start writing in your own language first. most of the time i write primarily in english because i achieved the fluency by constant writing and consuming content. but sometimes i slap a portuguese first bc it flows better. as for an example, Grey Astor was written completely in portuguese before i cleaned his file into the english version.

- the single most useful trick i use: i pretend i am the character. not “i write about him.” i AM him for a while. how does he see the room when he walks in? What is the first thing his eyes go to? Does he tilt his head when he’s assessing someone? does he look at {{user}} at all? does his jaw tighten when he’s amused? does he speak in short sentences when he’s angry and long, lazy ones when he’s bored? sit in that head until the details stop feeling invented and start feeling familiar. don't be too pressed though. you wanna curse the hell out of that first message? do it. it is YOUR writing and nobody has a say in it, but you.

- details are the difference between “he entered the house” and something people actually feel. he entered the house. okay. what did his face do? did the door stick and did he shove it with his shoulder like he’d done it a hundred times before? what that room smelled like? the light too bright and did he squint for half a second? did he see {{user}} immediately or did it take him some steps? if he saw them, did his expression change at all, or did he keep the same bored look on purpose? did he take his jacket off or leave it on because he doesn’t plan to stay long? one flat sentence becomes a living moment the second you ask those questions. starting your bot on a random dialogue and random situation also sets a bit of a vibe.

writing the initial message:

the initial message is not a summary. it is the first scene of a story that has already been happening before {{user}} opened the chat.

rules i follow:

• show the character’s current emotional state through behavior, not exposition. don’t say “he was angry.” show the way he’s gripping the glass, the way he hasn’t blinked in too long, the way his voice comes out quieter than it should.

• give {{user}} something to react to immediately. a question, an accusation, a loaded silence, an object being held out, a door that just locked.

• keep the prose tight but rich. cut every sentence that doesn’t either move the scene or reveal character.

• end on tension or invitation, anything that will give the user space to both think of a response and want to type it at all.

• use the character’s actual speech patterns from the personality you made. If he talks like a street mutt, don’t suddenly give him poetry. if he’s formal and cold, don’t make him slangy. or do. break the cliché.

• length: any length you feel like writing. short or long, both are good. don't think of yourself less because you wanted to write something shorter.

building the personality (the template i actually use)

i fill this out while still pretending to be the character. every field is answered in his voice first, then cleaned.

- give them a WORLD, not just a face look at the top of a good char file. before you even get to the character, you gotta build the sandbox they live in. year, place, texture. what music's playing, what phones look like, what the slang sounds like, what people are wearing, what's on tv.

- specificity is everything. don't say "he's into music." say what he's into, what he thinks is trash, the more textured the world, the less work the bot has to do to sound real, cause it's just reacting to shit that's actually there.

physical description = character, not a stat sheet

don't just list eye color and height like you're building a Sim. every physical detail should tell you somethin about who they are. tattoos that spell something out, that mean something, that tie him to other people. if you can delete a physical detail and lose nothing, cut it. if it tells a story, keep it.

this is where most bots die. don't write dialogue in perfect grammar with zero personality and wonder why the bot feels like a wikipedia article.

figure out:

- what words do they drop (g's, contractions, filler)

- what era/scene slang do they use, and use it consistently

- do they talk in one-liners or full sentences

- what's their tell when they're uncomfortable

- write actual example lines. not describing the voice but showing it. "he'll text this out of nowhere with zero context" and then GIVE the texts. that's ten times more useful than "he's casual over text."

contradictions > perfection

- that tension is the character. if your bot is 100% one note, it's gonna get boring in one chat session. give 'em a thing they do that contradicts who they think they are.

write an "AI GUIDANCE" section, always.

- this is the part people skip and shouldn't. after all the flavor text, give blunt, direct instructions to the bot itself:

- pronoun/gender stuff if relevant

- what NOT to do (no anachronisms, no modern slang bleeding into a period piece}

- personality notes that reinforce "don't let this character get flanderized into a softer version of themselves"

- his section is where you fight the model's tendency to sand every character down into a nice, agreeable golden retriever. name it explicitly: "any softening is earned in-play." that one line does more work than a paragraph of vibes.

- also, please note that writing "don't talk for {{user}} is USELESS. ai often does NOT understands the word no. phrase it as "avoid". but honestly? that's also kinda not necessary. writing this may increasy the chances of the ai actually talking for the user. unless you're using a good proxy, then this one works real good

behaviors, not just traits

- instead of "he gets anxious sometimes," write what anxious actually LOOKS like on him specifically. that's an instruction the model can actually perform.

fill every line. then delete half of it and only keep what actually changes how he behaves in a scene. the rest becomes fuel for lorebooks later if you need it.

02 — images: niji journey

alright so if you're rotating a set of prompts that WORK for you, you're already ahead of like 80% of people who type "pretty girl anime" and pray. here's the anatomy of why these prompts function, broken down so you and your followers can build your own.

lead with the SHAPE of the image, not just the subject

- "one person, chibi, random position, show faces clearly" - that's describing a composition. tell the AI what kind of image this is before you tell it what's in it.

don't fight yourself in your own prompt

- heads up on your own prompt there, you've got "His expression is smug arrogant and moody" AND later "His expression is happy, smug and cynical" in the same block. that's you accidentally telling the model two different moods. clean that up before you reuse it, the model's gonna average them out and you'll get a weirdly muddy expression every time.

--no is your scalpel, use it once and mean it

- you already know this, but worth saying for followers: don't stack five "no"s hoping it'll behave. one clean negative prompt with the actual dealbreakers (color, style leakage, whatever) works better than a laundry list.

--profile codes = saved DNA

those strings of codes after --profile are saved style/character profiles — that's literally you banking a "look" so you don't have to redescribe someone's whole face every single time. if you find a prompt that nails a character, save the profile code, don't just save the prompt text. the profile is doing a lot of the consistency work that the words alone can't. without it, your image will most likely look like hentai anime.

if you cant pay for niji, use tensor. there is a trick to use niji for free but the ai moderation didnt let me post with it here.

03 — graphics: picsart

- i pay $10 a month for PicsArt pro because the tools are fast and the results look clean.

- if you have android and don’t want to pay: download the picsart APK from a trusted source. a lot of the pro features unlock that way. use it for:

- adding subtle watermarks or signatures

- text overlays for banners

- removing awkward AI hands

- creating simple story cards or promo graphics

- keep a consistent visual language. same grain, people start recognizing your bots before they even read the name.

04 — the hook

alright this is a different skill than the char file itself, the hook is the ad copy. it's the thing standing between someone scrolling past your bot and someone clicking in.

- "you're rich, popular, hot" - not "the user is." you're not describing a character, you're casting the reader as the character.

- give the reader something enviable in the first line: rich, popular, hot, whatever the fantasy is, and then immediately puncture it. "you're rich, popular, hot" then bam, "your boyfriend's a shitty drummer in a loser band." that contrast in the SAME breath is the hook. status, then a problem that status can't fix. money and looks don't help you here, that's the whole tension. it could be used into any dynamic actually. popular x outcast. popular x popular. whatever. you just gotta twist it right.

name the rival/threat/issue or situation immediately, don't bury it

you're not teasing a mystery, you're naming the exact wound in one sentence. people don't click on vague dread, they click on a specific, relatable problem they can picture instantly.

[status flex] + [but here's the problem] + [name the specific threat] + [twist the power dynamic] + [unresolved comparison/question]

again, this is not a guide to what is right on botmaking. this is a guide on how me, nannikka, make a bot.

i also usually make the hook first as soon as i think of a plot, and as a write it and give it life, i refine the hook until im pleased and its consistent.

05 — proxy and tokens

now the token count bc apparently i have time to spare today (i dont)

tokens = chunks of text (not exactly words, kinda like word-pieces) that the ai reads through every single message. more tokens in your character card = more stuff the ai has to hold onto and remember every time it generates a reply.

here's the thing tho: context windows are kinda limited. the ai can only see so many tokens at once. (your card + chat history + whateva). so if your card alone is like... massive, that eats into the space the model actually has left to remember ur convo. which means the longer u chat, the more likely early details get pushed out and forgotten, or the bot just starts vibing off surface level stuff instead of the deep lore u wrote.

this is why some big creators keep their bots with a small token count: most keep it under 2K, a lot hover around 1.5 - 1.8 K. they're not lazy. there is just NO WAY to know what llm the person chatting is using. if it's jllm (janitor's own model) that thing is NOT running some giant context window, it's working with limited resources shared across like everyone using the site to chat at once.

so a bloated card = the bot forgetting itself faster, personality drifting, or just straight up turning into a potato with dialogue. it's safer to keep the token count lower if you want a better performance.

but bestie, that's not me 😭

i make bots for MYSELF. i'm not out here trying to make the perfect card for the masses, and i'm not using jllm either. i'm running through a proxy (kimi k3, in my case) which means i have a way larger token count.

translation: my token budget is not janitor's problem anymo. proxies like kimi have way bigger context windows than what jllm works with. the site's llm is improving everyday, and they work hard on it. but i'm a greedy hoe.

anyway thats the proxy tea. go make ur bae.

06 — extra tips

test the bot yourself for at least thirty messages before releasing.

- talk to it like a real user. break it on purpose. see where the personality collapses. you will find the cracks. if you're an active user you know what you like on a bot. as for cole, on an example: he was acting too damn annoying. like a fuckboy, too soft and then too hard. i found out what on his personality could he making him act like this by actively using him, and i changed it until the rp turned so good i stayed in it for a few DAYS. then i released. i had time to spare lmao

consistency in visual style + consistency in prose style

i personaly think that's important so people just know it's you. one good bot gets downloads. a recognizable voice across five bots gets you a following.

never be afraid of an ugly first draft of the personality.

the polished version only exists because the messy one existed first. don't wait to post until it's perfect, it never will feel perfect to you, that's just what making things feels like.

anyway, i started on this site only an year ago, but my writing passion came from way back, years back. writing jikook fanfictions as a teen, mainly (dont judge me). that passion grew enough for me to start posting stories on wattpad, spirit, and ao3. honestly the way i found janitor was really random. i had just watched high school frenemy and i grew so in love with both shin and saint that i had bcome one of those obsessed crazy fans. i wanted to be in their story and that way i found out about chatbots. no cause really, that was so embarassing 😭 i even used to post au's on twitter. tf gang, that must be a canon event or smth.(that's written in portuguese on wattpad and it is real bad gang. but i enjoyed every second on writing that shit)

anyway, here's the story i am too lazy to touch of finish on ao3, it is what inspired my plot for cillian (real ogs know this military bot)

believe in yourself. believe on your mind, your dreams, your ideas, your writing. every creator you love started at 0, and if they're not at 0 anymore, that's their merit and their efforts paying off, and you can achieve that too.

never punish yourself, or look down on yourself because your bot is not as high on numbers as others. that's how it is, the algorithm works on it's own way. that doesn't makes you any less of a good creator. you matter, and your creations matter too.i started from the bottom as well. at least, if you're at the bottom, the only way is up, right?

BOTTING —

okay so, when i posted cole, i actively saw him go against a dozen of botted bots. bots i saw go from 0 to 600 chats in less than 6 minutes, which im sorry but that is impossible, bots that achieved 200 K in a few small hours all of a sudden, bots that were the creator's second bot and yet having insane numbers. it just makes no sense for me personally. the problematics with botted bots is that they run over bots you should actually have the chance to see. bots made by creators that are small and actively trying to grow organically, with good plots and a good writing. most of us here have a very curated trending page by blocking creators we find out we dont like the content of, and tags we don't like seeing. and yet how to curate botted bots? how to find smaller creators that actually have marvelous bots to share? that's the real problematic about botting. it will not harm big creators. but it does causes harm to the small ones. so now ill put here some small creators appreciation (please check out their account if you have a chance. its worth it.)

ABOUT COMMS: I DONT CURRENTLY TAKE COMMISSIONS NO MORE, simply because i dont want to. after rebel's and xpc's comms are released, i'll step back from it for an INDEFINITE amount of time to focus on the membership requests i have due. if you have an idea and you wish yo have it brought to life by me, dm me and i'll answer if i would write it.
