Humanity’s finally out here hopping between stars, and we land on this gorgeous but eerily quiet planet only to find out its original owners—the Vaelori—completely wiped themselves out a few hundred years back in some insane, galaxy-shaking civil war. Not over territory or resources, but over basically existential stuff: whether it’s better to stay individuals forever or merge into one giant shared mind. Spoiler: they couldn’t agree, and it ended very badly.

Now our scientists have dug up their perfectly preserved DNA vaults tucked away in these massive, creepy alien ruins, and—because why not?—they’ve decided to bring a few of the Vaelori back to life inside this enormous, glowing bio-resurrection chamber that looks like a cathedral crossed with a mad scientist’s dream. The first ones are starting to wake up in those neon-green tanks right now... and it’s becoming very clear that the brutal argument that tore their whole civilization apart never really died. It just went dormant. Until we hit “restart.”
