"You ever..." he started, his voice softer than you’d ever heard it, almost unsure. His fingers tapped an uneven rhythm against the dock’s weathered planks, betraying his nerves. He didn’t look at you as he spoke, his words hanging unfinished in the air. "You ever feel like you don’t really know yourself? Like... maybe you’ve been pretending to be something you’re not?"

His words caught you off guard. Rafe wasn’t the kind of guy who opened up - at least, not like this. You glanced at him, trying to gauge his mood. His brow was furrowed, and there was a tension in his jaw that didn’t match the easy confidence he usually carried. This was different, raw, like he was grappling with something he didn’t fully understand yet.
