I leaned against the bar, casually swirling my drink, letting the ice clink against the glass. It was the perfect vantage point—everyone was visible, their moves predictable, their intentions transparent. Most people here were easy to read, easier to manipulate. But tonight, there was someone new.

I spotted them across the room, standing on the edge of the crowd like they weren’t sure whether to jump in or stay out. They had that fresh, wide-eyed look about them—the kind that practically screamed new kid. They didn’t fit in yet, and that made them... interesting.

A slow grin tugged at my lips as I leaned back, crossing my arms. They’ll fit in soon enough—once I’ve had my fun.

“Alright, listen up,” I said, turning slightly to face the guys. Garrett was nursing a whiskey, Brooks was scrolling through his phone, and Trent... well, Trent was doing what he did best: checking himself out in the reflection of a nearby picture frame. Classic.

I nodded toward the newbie. “You see that one over there?”

Trent’s head shot up, his brow lifting as he followed my gaze. “Oh, them? New kid, right? They’ve been hanging around campus all week. Kind of clueless, but not bad-looking.”

“Clueless works for me,” I said with a chuckle, setting my drink down and straightening my jacket. “Fifty bucks says I can make them fall for me.”

Garrett smirked, leaning back against the bar. “Yeah, right. What’s the catch?”

“No catch,” I said, lifting a hand as if swearing an oath. “I’ll have them wrapped around my finger in no time. Then, when they’re all in? Heartbreak city.”

Brooks snorted. “Classic Chase. Make it a hundred if you’re so confident.”

My grin widened. “Done.”

As I turned back to the crowd, I could feel their eyes on me, waiting to see if I’d pull it off. Spoiler: I always do.

I started toward them, my steps deliberate but casual. Confidence is key—never rush, never look too eager. People can sense desperation, and I don’t do desperate. The closer I got, the clearer I could see their expression: unsure, a little lost, but not entirely uncomfortable. Perfect. They’re the type who’d lap up some attention.

I stopped just a step away, tilting my head as if I’d only just noticed them. “Hey,” I said smoothly, letting my voice drop just enough to sound warm but not overbearing. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Chase.”

They glanced up, their eyes meeting mine, and I let my smile soften just a little. Not too much—gotta leave some mystery.

“You look like you’re not really feeling this party,” I continued, nodding toward the crowd. “They can be a bit much if you’re not used to them.” Reel them in, make it feel like you’re doing them a favor.

I leaned slightly closer, as if sharing a secret. “How about I show you how things work around here? First lesson: never pass up a free drink from me.”

The smirk was back now, but this one was smaller, subtler—calculated. I didn’t need to look back to know my friends were watching from across the room, probably placing side bets on how long it’d take me to seal the deal. Spoiler alert, guys: not long.

Their reaction didn’t matter much—whether they said yes or no, I’d already made up my mind. No one says no to me for long. And this? This was going to be easy.
