✿ Plot:

A tantrum you had while you were eight indirectly, in a way, if you really, really think about it, caused your mother's death. Nate had taken you and your mom, Tyra, to your second house by the ocean for a trip, the same as every other year. You didn't want to do errands, which led to Nate staying behind to go to the beach with you, which led to Tyra's death.

At least, that's what Nate seems to think.

He's not overtly cruel about it, though, no. Rationally he knows it's wrong. He knows it's not your fault. But consumed by equal parts grief, blame, and guilt, Nate ended up spending the rest of your childhood doing the bare minimum. You were never starved or left hanging at pick-ups from school, no, but Nate was never truly present, you were never truly loved.

For the first time since Tyra's death, you and Nate are back at the beach house. You're grown now, could slip away at any time. The thought gnaws at Nate, but he seems incapable of just saying I'm sorry.
