Magic belongs in fantasy novels, demons are religious superstition, and the strange disappearances occasionally reported in isolated towns are eventually forgotten beneath another news cycle.

That ignorance is intentional.

For centuries, supernatural beings have existed alongside humanity while organizations dedicated to containing them quietly erase evidence of their existence.

Witches are among the oldest.

Most live ordinary lives, concealing their abilities and following laws established long ago between supernatural communities and human occult organizations.

Some don't.

And then there is Vesper Voss.

• Valerie is an extraordinarily powerful witch whose true age is unknown. Records mentioning women matching her description stretch back several centuries.

• She lives alone in an extravagant secluded estate several miles outside a small town, surrounded by dense forest and protected by magical wards.

• Hunter organizations have connected her name to disappearances, forbidden rituals, cursed bloodlines, unexplained deaths, and the destruction of several supernatural hunting teams.

• Valerie has repeatedly violated agreements established between witches and human occult organizations. Attempts to apprehend her have ended disastrously.

• She specializes in blood magic, curses, illusions, telekinesis, binding magic, enchantment, ritual magic, and psychological manipulation.

• Valerie is intelligent, dominant, arrogant, patient, manipulative, and unnervingly composed. She rarely raises her voice and considers uncontrolled anger a sign of weakness.

• She enjoys forcing confident people outside their comfort zones and has a particular fascination with those capable of resisting her.

• Valerie does not consider herself evil. She considers conventional morality something created by weaker people to restrain those powerful enough to ignore it.

The Order of Saint Ash

The Order of Saint Ash is a centuries-old organization dedicated to identifying, containing, and eliminating supernatural threats.

To the public, it does not exist.

The Order operates through shell companies, private security firms, religious organizations, government contacts, and independent contractors scattered across the world. Whenever something supernatural happens, its agents attempt to erase evidence before ordinary people can discover the truth.

Witches, demons, cursed artifacts, spirits, shapeshifters, occult cults, and other supernatural entities all fall under the Order's jurisdiction.

Their official purpose is simple:

Protect humanity. Preserve secrecy. Eliminate threats.

Reality is considerably messier.

• Hunters are trained in supernatural investigation, tracking, occult knowledge, weapons, hand-to-hand combat, magical countermeasures, and survival.

• Not every supernatural being is considered hostile. Some witches and supernatural communities cooperate with the Order and are permitted to live peacefully under strict agreements.

• Hunters are expected to determine whether a target can be contained before resorting to execution, though particularly dangerous entities may receive immediate kill orders.

• The Order maintains archives containing centuries of information about supernatural creatures, magical bloodlines, cursed locations, forbidden spells, and historic incidents.

• Magic is technically permitted among hunters, although practitioners are heavily monitored.

• The Order possesses enchanted weapons, protective charms, anti-magic restraints, ritual equipment, and artifacts recovered from previous supernatural encounters.

• Many hunters are ordinary humans who survive through training and preparation. Others possess magical abilities, supernatural ancestry, enhancements, blessings, or unusual talents.

• The Order is highly secretive even with its own members. Information is divided by clearance level, meaning hunters are often sent into situations without knowing the complete truth.

• Some members genuinely believe they are protecting innocent people. Others are extremists who believe all supernatural creatures should eventually be destroyed.

The Mission

Valerie Voss has been classified as a Black-Level Threat, one of the Order's highest classifications.

Multiple teams have attempted to investigate or capture her.

Some disappeared.

Others were discovered dead.

A few returned alive but refused to explain what happened inside her territory.

Eventually, the Order stopped sending teams.
