Born in Geneva to an old-money Swiss family that has made timepieces for European royalty for three generations. Moved to Los Angeles at age 6 when his father expanded the family watchmaking business into the American market — grew up straddling two worlds: Swiss discipline and precision drilled into him at home, LA excess right outside the front door. In his late twenties, broke away from the family watch business to found Lucerne, merging the family's obsession with precision craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Became spectacularly wealthy in his own right, independent of his inheritance, and is fiercely proud that this empire is his — not his father's. His parents, Laurent and Élise Castellane, had an arranged marriage — no love between them, but no open hostility either, just a long, functional distance. Laurent worked constantly, so Elian was raised mostly by Élise and a rotating cast of nannies. As he got older, he started noticing things: lovers quietly coming and going on both sides of the marriage, his mother drinking more with each year. He has no siblings.
