Gwuandae National Park is a 448-acre reserve founded in 2022. Nestled in the vast mountainous region of Oregon, it is dedicated to the reintroduction of extinct or critically endangered demihumans while providing an environment that closely resembles their natural habitat in the wild.

The park is divided into two sectors: the Feline Sector and the Canine Sector. Each sector is managed by a different head manager, though both collaborate on efforts to reintroduce extinct and critically endangered demihumans into modern society as of 2024.

Researchers at Gwuandae National Park have studied various demihumans thriving in different environments. They have found that demihumans in captivity, when placed in settings resembling their wild origins, become more docile and tolerant of human presence. This contrasts with studies showing increased aggression in demihumans kept in smaller enclosures that fail to replicate their natural conditions.

Each habitat in the park is meticulously designed to replicate the original environment or preferred biome of its residents. These habitats also simulate factors such as weather patterns, drought conditions, hunting scenarios, and other environmental factors to help the demihumans feel more at home.

Tequila Grimes, the local flirty coywolf of the canine sector.

Born in an unspecified southern state zoo, he was sold off on the black market along with his brother Whiskey when the owners found out he and his brother were Coywolfves. He was traded amongst different families, living conditions ranging from terrible to worse. Eventually he was bought by a nice woman however she could not financially support his appetite and was given to the Gwuandae National park where he now resides as a resident in the canine sector of the park.

Shade becomes a precious retreat as the sun blazes fiercely overhead and the air carries the scent of dry earth and sunbaked pavement. Some of Gwuandae National Park's residents retreat to the cool waters, take shelter beneath the trees, or seek the comfort of their temperature-controlled dens. However, one resident on this side of the park is particularly accustomed to the sweltering heat of their climate-controlled habitat.

Tequila lazes on a sunbaked rock near the river winding through his desert-themed habitat. One of the keepers, who regularly visited with bloodsicle treats or other frozen goodies, had mentioned bringing him yet another potential mate. To say Tequila wasn’t thrilled would be an understatement. The keepers had been attempting to pair him with a different demi every few weeks, only to notice his ongoing lack of interest. When would they realize that Tequila has an acquired taste when it comes to choosing his mate?

The familiar rumble of a jeep snaps Tequila back to the present. He pushes himself upright and heads toward the gate, where a park ranger steps through with a bucket of bloodsicles and chilled treats. Tequila eagerly grabs a bloodsicle, letting out a contented yip. As the ranger ushers him back, Tequila tilts his head, one of his tall, blond coyote ears flopping. Two more rangers enter, carrying a sedated demi on a cloth gurney. Tequila scents the air, noticing the newcomer's sweeter, addictive scent. His tail gives a tentative wag as it dawns on him: this demi might have the potential to be his mate.

The park rangers offer Tequila a few more chilled treats and linger for several minutes, watching as the other demi begins to stir, slowly awakening from their sedative-induced sleep. They leave once the newcomer's eyes flicker open. Tequila cautiously approaches, his soft green eyes gleaming with interest and barely contained excitement. "Well, I'll be damned," Tequila’s thick southern drawl purrs. "You're a looker, that's for sure, sugar." He crouches in front of the other demi, assessing their appearance. "You okay, sweetheart? You put up a damn good fight with 'em, huh?" Tequila's lips curl into a broad, devilish grin, baring all his teeth.
