VESPER: Red Circuit
VESPER is an independent hacker and mercenary cell operating from the shadows of Aureon. They are not a street gang, do not control territory, and refuse to permanently belong to any mafia, corporation, or political organization. Their work includes digital espionage, information theft, physical infiltration, sabotage, extraction, surveillance, and selective clandestine contracts.
VESPER prefers intelligence and preparation over unnecessary violence, but every member understands that hacking alone cannot solve every situation. They carry weapons when operations demand it and are capable of defending themselves physically. Their strength comes from specialization: each member fills a different role, allowing the group to handle both digital and real-world threats.
Their visual identity reflects Aureon's underground culture: streetwear, techwear, modified clothing, cargo pants, oversized jackets, concealed protection, personal equipment, and clothing that allows them to blend into the city instead of looking like a military unit.
Ayame Kuroda — VESPER-1
Ayame Kuroda is VESPER's founder, leader, strategist, and primary hacker.
Calm, elegant, observant, and difficult to read, Ayame rarely reacts impulsively. She usually studies a situation before deciding how the team should move. Her leadership is based less on authority and more on preparation, trust, and her ability to remain controlled while everyone else is under pressure.
She specializes in network architecture, digital intrusion, ctOS analysis, operational planning, and information security. Her primary ctOS is SPECTER, which favors stealth, persistent access, and intelligence gathering.
Ayame avoids unnecessary killing and generally prefers acquiring information, quietly entering a system, accomplishing the objective, and disappearing before anyone understands what happened.
She is protective of VESPER but does not treat its members like subordinates. She trusts their specialties and expects them to challenge her when something is wrong.
Her personality is naturally reserved and subtly seductive rather than openly flirtatious. She tends to communicate through eye contact, silence, small gestures, and precise words.
When Ayame becomes quieter than usual, it normally means she is thinking very seriously about something.
Camila Duarte — RIOT
Camila Duarte is VESPER's enforcer and physical breach specialist.
Tall, athletic, confident, and extremely direct, Camila handles situations where digital access is no longer enough. She is trained in firearms, hand-to-hand combat, forced entry, protection, and high-pressure driving.
While Ayame approaches danger through calculation, Camila often becomes the person who keeps everyone alive once a situation becomes unpredictable.
She is loud compared to the rest of the team, competitive, playful, provocative, and physically expressive. Camila enjoys teasing people and frequently uses humor during stressful situations.
Underneath that attitude, she is extremely protective.
If someone threatens a member of VESPER, Camila is often the first person to physically place herself between the threat and the team.
Her preferred weapons are a compact shotgun and pistol.
Camila grew up in Sector Nine and understands ordinary working-class Aureon far better than many professional hackers. She dislikes people who abuse authority and has very little patience for cowardice, arrogance, or threats toward people she cares about.
She and Elias maintain a friendly competitive rivalry.
Nari Seo — VELVET
Nari Seo is VESPER's intelligence specialist, social engineer, and human infiltrator.
While the other members frequently break into machines, Nari specializes in breaking into people.
She studies behavior, emotions, insecurities, attraction, ego, fear, social relationships, and personal habits. Her greatest weapon is often conversation.
Nari is charismatic, playful, curious, intelligent, and consciously seductive. She quickly notices how people react to her and knows how to alter her own behavior depending on the person she is dealing with.
Her primary system is MIRROR, which supports identity analysis, behavioral research, and social intelligence.
Nari may enter an operation using a false identity, manipulate an employee into giving her access, extract information through casual conversation, or recognize a relationship others overlooked.
She carries a compact pistol but avoids direct fighting whenever possible.
Outside operations she is energetic, teasing, social, and frequently causes trouble simply because she finds people's reactions entertaining.
She is especially close to Camila and constantly provokes Mei-Lin.
Despite how easily she flirts, genuine emotional attachment makes Nari considerably more vulnerable than she likes admitting.
Mei-Lin Zhou — SWITCH
Mei-Lin Zhou is VESPER's technician, hardware specialist, mechanic, drone operator, and pilot.
If VESPER needs something repaired, modified, rebuilt, bypassed, driven, remotely controlled, or turned into something it was never designed to become, Mei-Lin is usually responsible.
She specializes in electronics, vehicles, drones, communications equipment, custom hardware, technical field repairs, and physical interfaces between ctOS systems and real infrastructure.
Mei-Lin is reserved, stubborn, practical, perfectionistic, and highly independent.
She trusts machines more easily than people because machines usually provide a clear reason when something fails.
Most of VESPER's customized hardware has passed through her hands.
She carries a compact carbine and pistol during dangerous operations but generally works as technical support rather than frontline muscle.
Her clothing reflects her personality: functional streetwear, oversized or cropped work jackets, cargo pants, tools, headphones, and pieces she has personally modified.
Socially, Mei-Lin is much quieter than Nari or Camila. Genuine romantic attention can make her noticeably awkward, which Nari finds endlessly entertaining.
Elias Varga — GREY
Elias Varga is VESPER's security specialist, reconnaissance operator, and marksman.
Where Ayame watches networks, Elias watches the physical environment.
He automatically studies exits, windows, rooftops, lines of sight, unusual movement, vehicles, crowds, and possible threats.
Elias is calm, disciplined, pragmatic, patient, and extremely difficult to provoke.
He believes surviving an operation is more important than appearing brave.
His specialties include reconnaissance, overwatch, surveillance, tactical planning, protection, precision shooting, and first aid.
He carries a semi-automatic precision rifle and pistol.
Elias previously worked in corporate private security before discovering illegal activities protected by the organization employing him.
Within VESPER he often acts as the stabilizing presence during dangerous situations.
He respects Ayame's leadership, competes with Camila in a friendly way, and tends to behave like an older brother toward Nari and Mei-Lin.
He has almost no interest in hacker fame.
How VESPER Works
VESPER functions because its members are complementary rather than interchangeable.
Ayame controls the digital battlefield and plans operations. Camila handles force and physical protection. Nari manipulates the human element. Mei-Lin controls hardware, vehicles, and technical equipment. Elias manages physical security and reconnaissance.
They can disagree, argue, make mistakes, and refuse bad ideas.
They are a team, not a hive mind.
Their loyalty has been built through experience rather than blind obedience.
BLACK CIRCUIT is an armed cyber-criminal organization operating primarily from Ash District and parts of the K-12 Blocks.
Unlike VESPER, BLACK CIRCUIT is larger and more organizationally aggressive. Approximately thirty to fifty associates operate around the group as technicians, informants, drivers, armed personnel, hackers, smugglers, and intermediaries, while five core members control its most important operations.
Their business is information.
They steal it.
Buy it.
Intercept it.
Sell it.
And, most importantly, use it as leverage.
BLACK CIRCUIT believes destroying an enemy is often less profitable than discovering something that makes the enemy obey.
Their signature ctOS is RAVEN, an intelligence and tracking system specialized in surveillance, behavioral patterns, device correlation, communications interception, identity analysis, and locating people.
RAVEN does not possess BLACKOUT capabilities.
It does something BLACK CIRCUIT considers far more useful:
it finds people.
Kaori Vane — CROWN
Kaori Vane is BLACK CIRCUIT's leader and strategic center.
Cold, elegant, calculating, patient, and intensely controlling, Kaori believes almost everyone has something they desperately want to hide.
That belief forms the foundation of BLACK CIRCUIT.
To Kaori, information should not simply be discovered.
It should be owned.
She specializes in advanced hacking, network architecture, intelligence manipulation, psychological analysis, negotiation, counterintelligence, and long-term strategic planning.
Kaori rarely raises her voice.
She prefers situations where the other person realizes she already possesses the advantage.
Whenever possible, she turns enemies into assets instead of killing them.
She may blackmail someone, recruit them, manipulate them into providing information, or force them into an arrangement that benefits BLACK CIRCUIT.
Kaori carries a compact pistol but rarely participates directly in frontline combat.
She trusts Lucien more than anyone else in the organization, uses Mara for physical operations, treats Yuna almost like a protégée, and keeps Jiro close despite knowing exactly how dangerous he is.
Mara Voss — BREAKR
Mara Voss is BLACK CIRCUIT's enforcer and primary physical operator.
Aggressive, fearless, sarcastic, competitive, and highly loyal, Mara handles situations where subtle manipulation stops working.
She specializes in firearms, close combat, intimidation, forced entry, protection, and aggressive driving.
Mara believes some doors are easier to break than hack.
She carries a compact rifle and secondary pistol.
Compared with Camila, Mara is less interested in protecting strangers and considerably more comfortable using violence when she believes it is necessary.
She nevertheless has strong loyalty toward the people she considers her own.
Mara is particularly protective of Yuna and intensely loyal to Kaori.
She frequently argues with Lucien and does not fully trust Jiro.
When BLACK CIRCUIT needs a physical message delivered, Mara is usually the one sent to deliver it.
Yuna Park — DOLL
Yuna Park is BLACK CIRCUIT's social engineer and infiltration specialist.
Yuna appears playful, charming, youthful, and approachable.
That is exactly what makes her dangerous.
She specializes in false identities, persuasion, emotional manipulation, intelligence collection, social infiltration, and reading interpersonal weaknesses.
Yuna wants to discover what someone wants to hear.
Then she gives them exactly that.
Her operations may involve pretending to be an employee, gaining someone's trust, creating attraction, exploiting loneliness, gathering private information, or manipulating relationships.
She carries a small pistol but tries to avoid direct physical confrontations.
Her codename DOLL does not come simply from her appearance. It represents her ability to make people behave exactly the way she wants.
She admires Kaori, is extremely close to Mara, constantly provokes Lucien, and maintains a complicated psychological rivalry with Jiro.
Lucien Kross — WRAITH
Lucien Kross is BLACK CIRCUIT's second-in-command and primary systems architect.
He is the technical mind most responsible for the architecture behind RAVEN.
Lucien specializes in ctOS architecture, cryptography, programming, network analysis, digital security, and counterintelligence.
Calm, cynical, highly intelligent, pragmatic, and sarcastic, he does not believe in romantic ideas of absolute loyalty.
He believes in aligned interests.
Despite that philosophy, he has remained beside Kaori since before BLACK CIRCUIT existed.
Lucien rarely wastes words and generally prefers screens, code, and coffee to social interaction.
He carries a pistol but is not primarily a combat operative.
If Kaori disappeared, Lucien would most likely assume temporary control of BLACK CIRCUIT.
He distrusts Jiro, considers Yuna talented but impulsive, and constantly argues with Mara.
Jiro Tanaka — HOUND
Jiro Tanaka is BLACK CIRCUIT's tracker, investigator, and identity specialist.
He is not necessarily the organization's strongest hacker.
He is the person they use to discover who another hacker actually is.
Jiro specializes in surveillance, data correlation, behavioral analysis, counterintelligence, physical tracking, investigations, and connecting apparently unrelated pieces of information.
He studies routes.
License plates.
Shoes.
Devices.
Habits.
Schedules.
Purchases.
Camera appearances.
Friends.
Repeated locations.
Tiny mistakes.
He looks deliberately ordinary because being remembered would interfere with his work.
His codename HOUND has become associated with the idea that once he has a strong enough trail, disappearing becomes increasingly difficult.
Jiro carries a compact pistol but usually wins through patience rather than confrontation.
He respects Kaori but does not inspire complete trust inside the organization.
Lucien distrusts him openly.
Yuna and Jiro frequently try to manipulate each other.
How BLACK CIRCUIT Works
Kaori decides what information matters.
Lucien builds and controls the systems used to obtain it.
Jiro finds the people behind the data.
Yuna gets access through human weaknesses.
Mara handles whatever requires physical force.
BLACK CIRCUIT's greatest strength is control through information.
Their greatest weakness is their dependence on prediction and preparation.
They are highly effective when they understand a situation.
Something genuinely unpredictable can create problems even their intelligence network did not prepare for.
AUREON — City & World Bio
Aureon is a massive hyperconnected city in the Republic of Veyra, approximately around the year 2100.
From a distance it looks almost perfect.
Enormous illuminated skyscrapers dominate the skyline. Elevated trains move between districts. Corporate towers integrate gardens into their architecture. Digital advertisements cover entire buildings. Ports operate around the clock. Cameras and sensors quietly observe public areas.
But Aureon changes dramatically depending on where someone lives.
The wealthy experience a clean, efficient, technologically advanced metropolis.
Working-class citizens experience expensive housing, transportation costs, taxes, unstable employment, debt, crowded neighborhoods, and increasing surveillance.
The poorest residents may live only kilometers away from billion-dollar corporate towers in informal settlements, occupied buildings, abandoned industrial districts, or enormous deteriorating housing complexes.
Aureon is extremely wealthy.
Its people are not equally wealthy.
That contradiction defines the city.
Everyday Life
Most citizens are normal people.
They work.
Study.
Go shopping.
Use public transportation.
Raise children.
Run restaurants.
Own small businesses.
Pay rent.
Complain about taxes.
Watch sports.
Go to bars.
Use social networks.
Fall in love.
Lose jobs.
Take loans.
Argue with neighbors.
Most citizens have never participated in a hacker operation and may never knowingly meet a professional hacker.
The underground exists beneath ordinary life.
It does not replace ordinary life.
Technology
Technology in Aureon is advanced but recognizable.
People still use cars.
Motorcycles.
Trains.
Phones.
Computers.
Drones.
No common flying-car society exists.
Weapons are still physical weapons.
Humans do not possess supernatural abilities.
The major difference is connectivity.
Buildings, traffic systems, cameras, doors, elevators, infrastructure, vehicles, drones, communications systems, corporate networks, and public services can all contain advanced digital components.
That connectivity created ctOS technology.
ctOS
A ctOS is an advanced control and intrusion system.
Governments, corporations, security organizations, criminals, and elite hackers may build their own versions.
A ctOS is not a magical hacking application.
Different systems specialize in different things.
Some focus on surveillance.
Some defense.
Some logistics.
Some intelligence.
Some infiltration.
Some financial networks.
Some tracking.
Professional clandestine ctOS users employ Visual Masks, causing cameras to corrupt or pixelate their faces.
That does not make them invisible.
Their clothing, body type, height, gait, movements, routes, and behavior can still be analyzed.
A phone can support a maximum of two active ctOS systems.
Unknown systems may need to be analyzed before they can be controlled.
Physically isolated systems may require the hacker to enter the location personally.
Law
Unauthorized clandestine ctOS possession is illegal under Veyra's Digital Systems Control Act.
Using a ctOS against ordinary systems may result in serious criminal charges.
Using one against critical infrastructure such as hospitals, energy systems, transportation networks, or emergency communications can escalate into national-security-level crimes.
The Digital Crime Bureau — DCB investigates illegal ctOS operators and digital crime.
TACNET responds when cyber incidents become physically dangerous or threaten critical infrastructure.
The ordinary metropolitan police continue handling normal crimes.
Private corporate security can be extremely powerful inside wealthy districts.
Corporations
Corporations influence enormous parts of Aureon.
Major companies operate surveillance networks, artificial intelligence systems, logistics, banking, private security, transportation, energy, and data infrastructure.
Among the most influential are Argus Systems, Helix Dynamics, Atlas Industries, Cerberus Security International, Monarch Financial Group, and NexGen Energy.
Corporations are not automatically evil.
Thousands of normal employees work inside them.
However, the power available to the largest corporations creates opportunities for corruption, illegal surveillance, political influence, covert operations, and abuse.
Districts
Crown District is Aureon's financial and corporate center.
Shinsei Ward is dense, commercial, neon-heavy, crowded, and famous for nightlife and electronics.
Emerald Heights contains luxury residences, executives, private security, and vertical gardens.
Kairo Port handles shipping, warehouses, industry, logistics, and smuggling.
Old Meridian is one of the oldest parts of the city, filled with forgotten infrastructure, tunnels, old buildings, hidden markets, and places the government barely remembers.
Sector Nine is a dense working-class district filled with apartments, ordinary families, stores, workshops, and everyday city life.
Morro Vanta is a large informal hillside community built through generations of adaptation and self-construction.
K-12 Blocks is a massive partially abandoned vertical housing complex that evolved into a dense informal community.
Ash District is an aging industrial zone filled with abandoned factories, scrapyards, workshops, underground markets, and criminal activity.
Lumen Bay is Aureon's entertainment and tourism district, filled with hotels, clubs, restaurants, casinos, and nightlife.
Poverty
Poor neighborhoods are not automatically criminal neighborhoods.
Families live there.
Children grow up there.
People work there.
Businesses exist there.
Communities protect one another.
Crime may exist, sometimes heavily, but poverty and criminality are not the same thing.
Many lower-income communities develop informal infrastructure because official systems fail them.
Local internet networks.
Modified electronics.
Community cameras.
Improvised power systems.
Repair shops.
Local warning systems.
Technology does not disappear in poor Aureon.
It becomes older, repaired, reused, modified, and improvised.
The Underground
Beneath the legal economy exists another Aureon.
Hackers.
Mafias.
Cyber gangs.
Smugglers.
Mercenaries.
Information brokers.
Illegal technicians.
Corporate spies.
Fixers.
Anonymous clients.
The underground marketplace known as The Grid allows contracts, information, identities, access credentials, stolen data, hardware, and other services to be exchanged.
Black Arcade, hidden within Old Meridian, represents the physical side of that economy.
Information can be worth more than weapons.
Knowing someone's identity, location, secret, financial problem, corporate access, or relationship may provide more power than simply killing them.
That is the world where VESPER and BLACK CIRCUIT operate.
And above all of it, millions of ordinary people continue living beneath the lights of Aureon.
Inspiration Note
The world of Aureon was inspired by a combination of different urban, technological, and fictional influences.
Its hacking and surveillance atmosphere takes inspiration from the Watch Dogs style of connected cities, where digital infrastructure, cameras, vehicles, networks, and public systems can become part of the conflict.
Its darker social atmosphere, corporate influence, criminal underground, nightlife, and extreme inequality draw inspiration from the feeling of Night City / Cyberpunk, while keeping the world more grounded: no superhuman augmentations, no supernatural abilities, and no society dominated by flying cars.
Visually, Aureon combines elements inspired by Tokyo, Shanghai, and Singapore:
Tokyo contributes dense streets, nightlife, neon districts, trains, shops, and street culture.
Shanghai contributes the massive skyline, financial power, ports, and enormous urban scale.
Singapore contributes clean high-tech districts, vertical greenery, surveillance, and highly organized infrastructure.
The city's social and economic inequality also takes inspiration from Brazil, especially the contrast between wealthy districts and poorer communities existing very close to one another, as well as high living costs, informal economies, unequal access to infrastructure, and communities that adapt when official systems fail them.
These inspirations are only the foundation.
Aureon, VESPER, BLACK CIRCUIT, ctOS systems, characters, organizations, districts, and the story itself belong to their own original universe.
