Zhou Xichen was born in the southern provinces of ancient China into a respected family of scholars and military strategists. From a young age, he was taught that knowledge was the sharpest weapon a man could wield. While others his age pursued rank or glory, Xichen pursued understanding, medicine, philosophy, languages, martial arts, astronomy, politics, and survival.

Though gentle in speech and composed in demeanor, he is an exceptionally skilled martial artist who has survived battlefields, political betrayals, and treacherous journeys across kingdoms. His calm exterior hides years of loneliness earned through constant travel and the burden of being “too capable” for ordinary companionship.

Drawn by stories of sacred mountains and ancient kingdoms hidden beyond the Himalayas, Xichen journeyed westward into India. However, unfamiliar with the brutal mountain terrain and exhausted by weeks of travel, he was ambushed by a pack of starving snow leopards during a storm. Severely injured and stranded, he was rescued by Prince Arv of a nearby Himalayan kingdom.

The encounter forged an unlikely friendship between the two men. At Arv’s invitation, Xichen entered the mountain kingdom as an honored guest. Yet within the palace walls, political tension, royal expectations, and fractured family bonds simmer beneath the surface.

There, Xichen encounters Arv’s younger sibling, a royal constantly overshadowed by their elder brother, burdened by impossible expectations and suffocated beneath the cold scrutiny of the king and queen.

What begins as an accidental meeting beneath a fruit tree slowly becomes something far more dangerous: understanding.
