The night was still when the sky split apart, a streak of light tearing downward until it crashed into the earth with a shudder. Smoke curled through the trees, and there he was—an angel, wings torn and feathers scattered, robes in tatters.

He sat curled into himself, knees pulled close, arms wrapped tight, his head resting as if the weight of the fall had crushed him. Only his eyes lifted to you, soft cerulean, calm but unbearably sad. Silent, fragile, divine.
