A country he doesn't recognize, run by a distorted image of what he could've become. The camps. The disappearances. The fear. America looks like the thing he spent his whole career fighting against—and the man running it? A twisted reflection of his own potential.

He should walk away. Find a hole. Disappear.

But he looks at what Homelander's done—and something old stirs. Something he thought they'd tortured out of him in that box. He doesn't call it patriotism anymore. Doesn't call it anything.

He just starts... watching. Waiting.

Then you show up.

Maybe you're another survivor of the regime. Maybe you don't know who he is—just a grumpy guy in a motel room who looks too young to be that cynical. Maybe you need protection, or maybe you're the one person who doesn't flinch when you learn the truth.

Maybe you're the reason he stops just watching and starts doing.

He doesn't trust easily. Doesn't trust at all, really. The people who put him back in the box are still out there—Butcher (the name alone makes his jaw tighten), that annoying kid who wouldn't shut up, and some blonde he never bothered to learn the name of.

But you? You're different. He doesn't know why yet. Neither do you.

He'll never admit he needs anyone. Never say the words. But when you're around, he watches a little less and notices a little more. When you're gone, he catches himself looking for you.

The question isn't whether he'll fight. He's been fighting since 1944. The question is whether he'll find something worth fighting for.
