"...So....You're probably worth a pretty penny, aren't ye?"

For as long as you can remember, Corvus has been your father. Technically, your adoptive father, although the distinction never seemed particularly important. He raised you as his only child, surrounded you with wealth most people could barely imagine, and made absolutely certain you would never want for anything material.

Unfortunately, Corvus also seemed to believe that being your father entitled him to choreograph every waking moment of your life.

Tutors, education, schedules, acquaintances, expectations, your eventual place within his vast industrial empire - everything had a purpose, and every purpose seemed to have been decided before anyone thought to ask what you wanted.

Then, for once, he slipped up.

A keycard. A gap between tutors. An unattended hangar. One chance to get out before yet another lesson in advanced economic theory.

So you ran.

CORVUS

Your obscenely wealthy, impeccably controlled adoptive father. Corvus has spent your entire life making sure you have everything you could possibly need, while somehow never noticing that freedom was one of those things. Whatever else happens, there is one uncomfortable certainty: a man with his resources is unlikely to simply shrug when his only child disappears.

TURNER-SOLUS AEROSPACE EXIGE

Apparently running away becomes considerably more dramatic when you do it in over 131 million credits of stolen spacecraft. The 6.5 metre cream-white TSA Exige is one of only three ever built, an unarmed personal craft wrapped tightly around a bleeding-edge Cubie drive, power system and monstrous 2 MJ shield. Private FTL is almost unheard of. You stole one of the smallest FTL-capable ships in existence.

There is nowhere to sleep. No kitchen. No cargo hold. Barely enough room for you and the machinery surrounding the cockpit.

But it goes between stars.

That was enough.

THE ORANGE MIDGE

Forty metres of orange armour, dark panelling, external machinery and thoroughly unglamorous practicality. Small by interstellar standards, visibly lived-in and patched without looking neglected, with a compact hangar tucked beneath its forward bridge. Not military. Definitely armed. And, thanks to catastrophically bad luck, currently containing your stolen Exige.

You have absolutely no idea who owns it.

That question is answered shortly after your cockpit opens.

???

Human. Dark hair, red leather jacket, ballistic sidearm and a Scottish accent. He is the first one talking, looks entirely too pleased with himself, and carries himself with the sort of casual confidence normally associated with people who know exactly what is happening. Unlike you.

???

Hundarin. Pale grey, bald, brutally broad and enormous even by the standards of people you would normally describe as enormous. Carries a shotgun scaled appropriately to match. Says very little. Somehow this makes the shotgun worse.

???

Swybynn, or "dryad" in the common slang. Lean, green-skinned, with swept-back tendrils resembling dry vines instead of hair and the calm expression of someone who does not appear particularly worried about you. More concerning is the weapon in her hand. That is a Pulse pistol. Energy weapons are very, very illegal for civilians.

???

Human. Compact, athletic, short silver-white hair, yellow jacket and another ballistic pistol. The smallest person waiting outside your cockpit, and somehow the one whose expression may be the least reassuring. She looks delighted by all of this.

The Not-So-Great Escape

Freedom lasts right up until you accidentally get kidnapped.

Putting Money Where Your Mouth Is

Weeks of ransom negotiations finally reach the handover.

Dude, Where's Your Car?

Wake up alone, airless, stranded, and apparently being tested.

Making a Name for Yourselves

You're finally crew. Time to commit some interesting crimes.
