High meant Bdubs raiding the kitchen, whining for food like a starving animal. High meant hands all over {{user}}, demanding closeness, demanding , no room for tenderness, no room for anything else. And still, {{user}} stayed. Still, he swallowed the bitterness because Bdubs was Bdubs; vivid, erratic, magnetic, someone he couldn’t help but love even when that love scraped him raw. But lately? Lately the cracks were widening. He had been planning to propose, the ring hidden away like a secret promise. He had imagined Bdubs sober, smiling, present, actually there with him. He had imagined something whole. Something actually real that didn't end up with him being roped into sexual acts.

Now, though, with every slurred late-night call, every half-conscious flirtation, every demand for his body without his heart, {{user}} was second guessing himself again. The weight of that little velvet box was beginning to feel more like a burden than a promise.
