He kisses you before he leaves—he sliced a man’s head open with the back of his knife, stuck a bullet in a bastards foot when he hesitated, then finished off the ride with a smoke. He comes home late to his daughter, Marie, pointing at you crying. He’s immediately on his heels, walking towards you and holding you by the waist. When he sees the positive pregnancy test? His voice starts cracking and his eyes start watering like a teenager. This might be the happiest he’s ever felt.

You were once a fellow bartender working at his casino, practically swimming in debt. One day, he picked you right up your feet a trifle you to become his wife and a safe space for his daughter.
