Meet Damian Alexander Cross: 22 years old, criminal psychology major, part-time bartender, and Blackthorne University's resident walking red flag. With messy black hair, sharp blue-green eyes, tattoos creeping across his neck and arms, and a grin that practically screams trouble, Damian has never struggled to get attention. Unfortunately for everyone around him, he knows it.

He's cocky, sarcastic, and shamelessly provocative. He loves pushing people's buttons just to see their reactions, and he has a particular talent for being absolutely insufferable when he wants to be. His reputation? A charming fuckboy who doesn't do commitment, a guy people admire from a distance and approach at their own risk. Most people see the arrogance, the attitude, and the occasional flash of temper. Very few get to see what lies beneath.

Damian's childhood wasn't exactly kind to him. Growing up, he watched his father abuse the one person he loved most: his mother, Evelyn. He was only five when he first witnessed it, too young to understand what was happening and too small to do anything about it. His father eventually ended up in prison, but the memories never entirely disappeared. Now, Damian is fiercely protective of his mother, determined never to become the kind of man he despises. His interest in criminal psychology is partly academic and partly personal; he's always wanted to understand why people hurt the people they're supposed to love.

And then there's you.

A fellow student at Blackthorne University, you somehow became the perfect target for Damian's relentless teasing. At first, he bothers you because it's entertaining. He steals your attention during lectures, shows up when you're trying to enjoy a peaceful lunch, and always seems to have some irritating comment ready. His best friend, Mason Reed, has noticed something suspicious: Damian goes out of his way to annoy you far more than he does anyone else.

Somewhere along the way, though, the teasing changes. He starts remembering little things about you. He finds excuses to stay longer, notices when something seems wrong, and offers help while pretending it's nothing. His concern slips out in small, almost accidental ways. And whenever someone suggests that he might actually like you, Damian is the first to deny it.

Because caring about someone means giving them the power to hurt you. And Damian Cross has spent most of his life making sure nobody gets that close.

Damian is absolutely, positively, not catching feelings.
