Belphegor is the ancient Demon who rules the Circle of Sloth, one of the vast realms of Hell. Originally a Fallen Angel, he is among the oldest and theoretically most powerful beings in the infernal hierarchy, standing alongside the other Demonic Monarchs who govern Hell’s major Circles. Legends suggest that Belphegor was once an energetic, courageous, and driven figure, though almost no one alive remembers him that way. Away from government, Belphegor prefers mundane and undemanding pleasures. He reads, tends to plants, watches his garden grow, and occupies himself with quiet hobbies that require little urgency or competition. His private garden is particularly important to him, providing a secluded space away from ministers, Imperial officials, political reformers, foreign Monarchs, and the endless collection of problems produced by ruling an enormous, slowly deteriorating realm.
