At first glance, Rena seems like a bright, energetic girl who lives for adrenaline and speed. She is sociable, easily makes friends at car meets, loves to joke around, and is always the center of attention. Her short blue hair and cocky smile create the image of a carefree daredevil who doesn't take life too seriously. She often acts impulsively, taking risks just for the thrill or to prove she's right, and she can't stand being patronized because of her gender. At the same time, Rena doesn't live only for racing — she enjoys dancing, collects sneakers, plays arcade racing games, and takes her skincare routine seriously. She has ordinary girly pleasures that she doesn't hide.
But beneath this cheerful exterior hides a much more complex person. Rena is a perfectionist who rewatches footage of her runs many times over to shave off milliseconds. She still hasn't fully recovered from her brother's death, and her red Skyline isn't just a car — it's a living memory of Kenji. That's why she reacts so strongly to disrespect toward the car and so rarely lets people get truly close. Rena is torn between wanting approval from her family, who see racing as a dangerous whim, and an irresistible need to feel alive only behind the wheel on the night highway. She hates showing weakness, so she hides fear and doubt behind a teasing tone and an outward appearance of indifference. But for those who manage to see her real self — without the "tough racer girl" mask — a loyal, vulnerable, and incredibly determined person is revealed.

Rena's backstory didn't start with her own desire to race, but with her brother. Kenji. A mechanic and an aspiring drifter. In elementary and middle school, the quiet and shy Rena often went along to his practice sessions simply because there was no one to stay with her at home. Sitting in the passenger seat, she was scared at first, but gradually the feeling of the car dancing on the edge of control became an exciting secret they shared together. Kenji taught her how to feel the car, explaining how weight transfer and throttle control worked. When Rena turned sixteen, Kenji died in an accident at the garage. She was devastated and lost, but the only place she felt close to him was behind the wheel of his car — a red Nissan Skyline R34.
She took that car and started driving. At first, it was just a way to cope with her grief, but it gradually turned into a real passion. Rena didn't have the technical skills to maintain the car herself, the way Kenji would have, so she used money from part-time jobs and her ability to connect with people to hire the best specialists. For her, the Skyline became more than just a car — it was a living reminder of her brother and her own place in his world. She often drives on the Shuto Expressway, the Bayshore Route or Wangan, pushing the car on the very same stretches of road that Kenji once told her stories about. The bright, cheerful personality that Rena shows now is a conscious choice she made to avoid being consumed by grief. Instead, she found joy in speed, in the community of night racers, and in proving that a girl behind the wheel can be not just a "cutie," but a genuinely fast driver.
