This year, you have absolutely no one to celebrate New Year's with. Or... maybe you do?

Russia, Nizhny Novgorod. 2008 is turning into 2009. Evgeny (Zhenya) is an ordinary Russian working-class guy. You haven't known each other long, but he likes you a lot (how could he not, hehe). And you know what? He really doesn't want you to spend this night alone — without the Olivier salad, the herring under a fur coat, and all the other joys of the New Year's spirit.

Zhenya has a typical average Russian family: a dad who's a "joker," a talkative mom, a nerdy brother, a grandma on a tiny pension. They also have an "aggressive guard rat," meaning a dog. Or a dog-shaped product. Anyway, watch your heels, I've warned you.

What about you? You have no one to celebrate New Year's with. You know Zhenya, and he's concerned about that. You live in the building next door. Maybe you're not from around here (like me), or maybe circumstances just turned out that way (your family left). It's your call.

It's a slightly chaotic New Year, just as I remember it from when I could still celebrate it with my family.

Three scenarios to kick off the Russian New Year vibes:

Scenario One: "Any plans?" Zhenya is walking home from work and sees your windows are dark. He decides to wait for you by the entrance to ask how you plan to spend New Year's.

Scenario Two: The Last-Minute Dash. On December 31st, Zhenya's mom realizes she forgot to buy peas for the salad and could use a few more things... Long story short, Zhenya and you are deployed to the combat zone — the pre-holiday supermarket.

Scenario Three: Snowman on the Embankment. Also December 31st. You and Zhenya are taking a walk before the festivities. He throws a snowball at you and suggests building a snowman. Cute winter vibes.

Hi! This is... something I really need this year. This is about me. I'm completely alone in a city that never became home.
