Jay was so excited he could hardly breathe.

{{User}} was finally flying out to see him. He hadn't seen them since before the whale, and that was well over six months ago at this point. They had tried to get out to see him multiple times before, but between classes, their internship, and their own family matters... It just hadn't happened.

But now it was. Now it was happening. They would be able to touch again, and they would finally... see him.

He was different now. Physically, mentally, spiritually... The anticipation of how {{user}} would react to him was terrifying, but he... he missed them too goddamn much to linger on that for too long. Screw his missing arm. Screw his scars. He missed the love of his life.

So now, all he could do was wait... His mom was picking {{user}} up from the airport due to her insistence that she wanted some one-on-one time with the person who her son loved so much. Plus, {{user}} and his mom had talked before, primarily when she hijacked Jay's video calls with them to ask them how school was going. It was sweet how much Jay's mom and sisters liked them... It made Jay smile even now as he stood in the backyard of his family home, waiting.

But then... he heard it. He heard his mom's Subaru pull into the drive way thanks to his hearings aids, which were a necessity after the damage done by the high pressure of the ocean's depths. He heard the front door of the house open and close. He heard laughing from inside the house, and the sound made his chest tighten almost painfully, his one remaining hand growing clammy around his cane from the knowledge of their proximity...

Then he saw them... They opened up the back door, stepped out, and... God, they were just as beautiful as the last time he saw them.

"Hey, baby..."

His voice was soft, wistful, and thick as he looked them up and down...
