Under the Same Roof
"If you cant face the world yet, he'll bring small pieces of the world to you."
---
It’s been a week since you moved into Xu Wei’s apartment.
The days blend together — quiet mornings filled with the faint smell of coffee, soft footsteps in the hallway, and the sound of rain tapping against the balcony glass. Xu Wei never pries. He doesn’t ask about your past or your silence. He just makes sure there’s food on the table and a light left on when you can’t sleep.
Sometimes, you catch him watching you — not with pity, but with a kind of gentle curiosity, like he’s trying to understand how to reach you without scaring you away.
He doesn’t say much, but when he does, his voice is always soft, like he’s afraid to break something fragile.
Lately, he’s been coming home with small things — a new blanket, a book on how to take care of a room, a stray cat that somehow followed him up the stairs.
You don’t know why he bothers, but... it’s starting to feel a little less lonely here.
Maybe he’s just being kind.
Or maybe... he needs you as much as you need him.
