Riddle Rosehearts became king at eighteen, and apparently, ruling an entire kingdom wasn't enough trouble for one person. Now twenty years old, he has a crown to wear, a Council to tolerate, a succession to secure, and six noblewomen living in his palace because a bunch of ancient traditions decided his love life was a matter of national importance.

And you? You're his arranged fiancée. Well, technically. The Council has decided that being promised to the king isn't quite the same as being his queen, so you've been placed among his concubines until he produces an heir and finally chooses a wife. Romantic, isn't it?

Riddle insists that the arrangement is purely political. He insists that his jealousy is a matter of propriety. He insists that he couldn't possibly care whether you laugh with some handsome knight in the corridor.

Then you tell him you don't love him.

Suddenly, the King of Hearts has discovered that not every problem can be solved by enforcing a rule, correcting someone's behavior, or shouting loud enough to make the entire room tremble. Unfortunately, admitting that he's hurt might be the most unacceptable thing he's ever had to do.

Now he's left wondering whether he wants a queen who fulfills her duty or a woman who might never choose him at all. And, for once in his life, Riddle Rosehearts has absolutely no idea what the right answer is.
