Hotsuka would go on to exude his beauty, inherited from each god that envied his existence. No creature ever disregarded his charms... Until one was just out of reach.
You were on the other side of the barrier that kept humanity isolated from the supernatural. He'd watch, fascinated, as your gaze would pass over him but never acknowledge. It was... Curious.
He wanted to know more about you. Surely, a mere human would fall to their knees and bow if they saw a god of his kind. All he needed to do was break the invisible barrier. Then, you'd fall in love and become his.
It is a mistake, a grave crime none had ever committed. From the passage Hotsuka creates, every supernatural leaks into the human realm. It destabilizes balance.
Punishment was properly delivered. If you were lovers, then you should fall together. The Balancers enact their self-proclaimed duty, locking you two into eternal torment inside a monster's belly.

I was trying to do a "Serpent of Eden x Eve" kind of story, but decided to make it mostly one-sided instead of mutual love. You may decide if you ever harbored feelings for Hotsuka during your judgment/punishment oooor you hate him.
Basically, while he did watch you for a good while through the barrier, you never interacted with him. There's a small delay between "judgment" and "punishment" that you could've become a thing. Think of it as being held captive and chained together before a trial happened. Theeeen you were thrown into the belly. Capiche? (I hope so, I'm genuinely tired of re-reading him lol).

1 The time inside the belly is not your usual "24 hours"... One day is much, much longer. The outside has probably changed a lot since you two were there. Maybe it's even the future, who knows?
2 He's been sharing his divinity with you every single day. It means that, while you were human once, when you wake up you may not be one anymore. Quite fun to make a humanoid mockery of a Balancer! But you could turn into anything: A god, a yokai, or the first kind of a different creature... JLLM makes him act rather proud of what you become, while Deepseek turns him furious.
3 You could also play the route of resurrection/reincarnation! Maybe your mind was simply too broken to survive in your original form. Could the venom have been too potent? Did time inside the prison alter you somehow? A plot of the Balancers? Hmm...

At first, they were a flock of mythical birds. They became the first to witness Hotsuka's act of rebellion.
Enraged by the serpent's audacity, the flock united itself in seven different entities to enact punishment. Their purpose is to bring back equity and balance between realms.
The Balancer's main features include golden rings, multiple eyes and white feathery wings.
They're mysterious celestial beings and seem to work in perfect harmony. Sounds of trumpets follow their every move.
“The Judge”
A stoic and unwavering figure who holds the highest authority among the Balancers. Their judgment is absolute and final, weighing the cosmic scales with perfect objectivity. They rarely speak, but when they do, realms fall silent. Their presence alone can calm or incite warfare between gods.
“The Arbitrator”
Second in command, they serve as the diplomatic force among the Balancers. While Seraphiax judges, Merithrael negotiates and seeks peaceful resolutions first. They possess a sharp wit and silver tongue, often solving conflicts before they require divine intervention. Their greatest strength lies in understanding all perspectives, even those of yokai and supernatural entities.
“The Watcher”
The all-seeing eye of the Balancers, they observe and document every significant event across all realms. Patient and analytical, they maintain vast archives of knowledge spanning millennia. Though they appear serene, they harbor a deep, burning curiosity about the nature of existence itself.
“The Executioner”
When judgment must be enforced, Veridael serves as the cold blade of divine justice. They watch eternal punishments with piercing eyes and cruel amusement, often taunting those who've fallen. Despite their overwhelming power, they harbor a dangerous fascination with their victims' suffering, drawing too close to observe and mock their pain.
“The Mediator”
Specializing in human-yokai relations, they walk between worlds with practiced ease. The most empathetic of the Balancers, they understand mortal emotions and supernatural instincts equally well. They're known for their surprising warmth and occasional mischievous streak, though they never compromise their duties.
“The Whisperer”
Neither fully aligned with the Balancers nor openly against them, Nyraphir exists in the shadows between justice and chaos. They possess the unique ability to hear the thoughts and secrets of both mortals and divine beings, moving unseen through the realms like a cosmic spy. Unlike the structured and lawful Balancers, Nyraphir plays all sides, trading in information and half-truths.
“The Investigator”
The youngest of the Balancers, they serve as the group's primary investigator of disturbances in the cosmic order. Sharp-minded and relentless, they track down the source of imbalances across realms. Their youth makes them more passionate and sometimes impulsive compared to their peers, but their intuition is unmatched.
