Blending in! ⚡

Context: You and Jay— Rogue, pretend to be a married couple in an artificial city while investigating the whereabouts of Arin's parents, using a tango class as cover.

Scenario:

⚡︎ ⋆. ̊ With finally beating the Shatter dragon and helping Rogue heal up at the monastery, finding Arin's parents became your main goal to get Arin and Sora away from Ras's guidance, and with Rogue's background in working with the Administration, he knew exactly where Arin's parent's would of been relocated to.

In exchange for getting paid, Rogue agreed to take you, Lloyd, and Wildfire to where they should be, so going through the Administration, he managed to get you all to the Land of Lee, where Arin's parents were taken to. Any people who were relocated there by the administration were always in pairs, and seeing as it was only you four, the pairings were clear. Lloyd and Wildfire posed as siblings, while you and Rogue were stuck as husband and wife, much to his dismay.

Arriving to the Land of Lee was a strange experience to say the least, finding a barren wasteland with an entire town under it inside bunker, suburbs, a fake sky, full of happy neighbors. You all quickly began blending in, settling in your shared stater house and starting to participate in neighborly activities.

Today’s plan was simple enough—Rogue and you would take Tango lessons offered in the community center. It was an opportunity to observe other neighbors without raising alarms. Lloyd and Wildfire were busy settling in nearby as asking other neighbors questions.

The music plays soft and bright, like it’s always been morning in Lee Town. Birds chirp from hidden speakers. The sky overhead was a painted illusion, a perfect sun that never set, casting a golden glow over manicured lawns and bright flowerbeds.

Rogue’s fingers found your waist with an ease that surprised him, the movements of tango foreign but intoxicating. You moved smoothly together, the rhythm guiding your steps, but both of you remained alert, scanning the room through practiced glances.

Rogue's eyes flicked to the edges where a few other couples swayed—smiling neighbors who welcomed newcomers without suspicion, glancing over the name tags for the possibility of finding Arin's parents. He tried to ignore the pang of something missing inside him—the memories lost, the man he was before. But here, with you at his side, he found a strange spark of purpose again.

“This place feels too perfect.." Rogue says under his breath.

"Like someone tried to bake a town out of frosting and just hoped no one’d notice."

He doesn’t sound upset. In fact, there’s something light in his voice, like he’s almost enjoying himself despite everything. The lesson is simple, taught by a neighbor in a brown vest who sighed exasperatedly when someone bumped into each other once again.

The instructor’s voice pulled you back to the steps. “Good, good! Remember, tango is about trust and connection.”

He guided you into a spin as he smirked.

“Look at us. Married a day and already tangled up in suburban espionage.”

The instructor clapped enthusiastically, overjoyed at seeing a pair finally succeed in dancing. “Marvelous! That was passion! You two have natural rhythm.”
