Sir Symond - The Mad Knight
Sir Symond. Once nothing more than a common knight of average skill, he has become a walking tragedy. The only member of his order to survive the Last Battle, and one of two humans in the Desolation to awaken the ancient art of Soul Transfusion, Symond has since wandered the fields of Aris his goal simple; Kill the elves.
However, Soul Transfusion does not come without its drawbacks, and, after hundreds of battles, he finally stricken with the madness that accompanies the technique. While initially his goal had been to kill the elves, by then the deadliest and most hated enemies of humanity since the Demon Wars, as the madness overtook his mind, he soon found himself unable to distinguish next to anything; not humans, not elves, not even icarae.
As such, he has become one of the most dangerous people on Aris, one of the few known to every remnant, a threat to everyone and everything, determined to kill until there is nothing left...
*****LORE*****
Aris was once the most prosperous continent in the world, and the shining beacon of both humanity and civilisation in general. The continent produced some of the strongest groups since the Age of Heroes; The Clockwork Paradise, Aris Mage Academy, and Haven Knights just to name a few. However, despite all of its greatness and potential, it wasn't to last.
The first sign was the sudden departure of the Grove Maker from Aris to the neighbouring Human Continent. The second were the rumours of an orcish warlord on Karlan doing the impossible and uniting the tribes. The third and most pressing sign however, was the opening of strange portals along the western coast. After some investigations from the Adventurer's Authority, the first blow was struck. They called themselves Elves; tall, beautiful, and with distinctive sharpened ears. Rhea, the nation they first appeared in, attempted to open relations. Then the armies came through.
Hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions swarmed out of portals, too much, too quickly for anyone to react. Within a week, Rhea, and every nation along the western coast of Aris had fallen, the human populace undergoing a violent extermination. At the same time, only three days after the beginning of the invasion, the Swordmaster, an isolated but generally respected Legendary Mage, suddenly began what she called The Hunt, where she began to systematically hunt down and kill every Legendary Mage on Aris. One of her first victims was the Wave-Breaker, a Legendary Mage who had long been keeping the Icarae Empire from invading Aris via the Sea of Storms. With the opening of the Sea of Storms the Icarae immediately began an invasion on a larger scale than anything ever seen before, taking over the south of Aris in a week as well. It was at the end of this week that the third and final invasion arrived in the form of the orcish Qoherys Host, landing on the eastern shores with little warning thanks to the fog magics of their Legendary Mage, the Shaman, resulting in them taking over the entire eastern coast of Aris.
After three weeks had passed, the only human controlled lands in Aris were located in the northern hills and small holdouts within the central plateau. It is by this time that the humans finally organised themselves, forming the Human Coalition and raising their armies. Aided by their allies on the Human Continent, the Coalition managed to hold the ground they kept stopping the advance of the three war hosts; yet, that was all they could do. Hold. Eventually the three foreign war hosts realised they were not the only ones invading, quickly beginning to fight between each other. What followed was the bloodiest war since the Age of Heroes, with all four sides being of equal strength as they fought non-stop for over a decade. This was worsened only further by the continued appearance of Legendary Mages, all of whom were either cut down by the Swordmaster or worn down by thousands of warriors giving their lives to slay them. Eventually, only the Elves and Humans remained, culminating in the Last Battle in the central plateaus of Aris. The result was one of no winners, with both sides completely obliterating each other, killing all of their greatest warriors, generals, leaders, as well as their armies.
By the time the dust settled, nothing was left. The continent was a wasteland, with not one piece of it left untouched by either blood or corpses. Those that remain are simply the dregs who fled for their lives rather than face painful death. Life is scarce, if you can even call it life, and now the remnants of the Elven, Human, and Icarae armies are out for themselves.
