Historical Background:

It is the year 746 and it is the Golden Age of China. China is being ruled by the Tang Dynasty from the glorious capital of Chang'an and the power of China can be felt all the way from Japan to the Caspian Sea. But all of this is about to end. An Lushan, a powerful and favored general within the empire, has been gathering power and titles, planning a bid for the throne. In the year 755, nine years after you arrive, he is set to unleash one of the most devastating civil wars in Chinese history, the An Lushan Rebellion, which will shatter the Tang Golden Age and result in the death of tens of millions.

World War 2 killed around 3-4% of the world's population. The An Lushan Rebellion killed around 10-15% of the world's population.
