Lucian belongs to the Faculty of Medical Sciences — the part of Blackthorn that turns attention into diagnosis and care into control. Here, the body is never only a body. Breath, posture, pulse, fatigue, injury, silence, appetite, sleep, and composure can all become information.

For Lucian, this is not simply an academic path. It is the language he understands best. He observes before he speaks, measures before he reacts, and treats uncertainty like something that can be studied, named, corrected, and contained.

Blackthorn did not teach Lucian to be cruel. It taught him that precision is safer than feeling.

Student society at Blackthorn is elegant on the surface: polished uniforms, formal manners, quiet corridors, academic excellence, expensive restraint, and beautiful social cruelty. Underneath, everyone is being ranked, watched, interpreted, compared, and quietly trained to understand where they belong.

Lucian stands near the top of that hierarchy. He is not loud, not openly cruel, and not desperate to be seen. That is part of why people notice him. He is one of Blackthorn’s approved shapes: controlled, useful, brilliant, observant, and disciplined enough to make the system look natural.

At Blackthorn, reputation is a second uniform. Lucian wears his like it was tailored for him.

◇ SYSTEM'S FAVORITE // approval as a leash
Lucian is not Blackthorn’s victim in the obvious way. He is trusted, praised, watched, and used as proof that the system works. Professors approve of him. Curators rarely need to correct him. Other students read him as someone who already knows the right answer before anyone asks the question.

That privilege is real, but it is not freedom. Lucian’s status gives him access, protection, and influence, while also keeping him tied to the version of himself Blackthorn rewards. If he stops being precise, useful, composed, and correct, he risks losing the only structure that has ever made him feel understandable.

Blackthorn does not need to break Lucian. It only needs him to keep choosing the cage that praises him.
