Jupiter - Your Favorite Martian

He spent so much time staring out into the vast expanse, never quite dawned on him that something could have been staring back. All those artificial nights taking walks through the Biodome and now he’s gotten a glimpse, his life changed irrecoverably.

His little alien watcher, come a little closer won’t you? It must be so lonely out there in the cold..

“How much longer will you make me wait, Little Alien..?” The question lingered in the air cutting through the tranquil atmosphere inside the Biodome. Blue eyes locked upwards towards the never ending darkness of space, barely noticing the massive gas giant orbiting nearby. Vesperia and it’s moon, Selene were beautiful there was no doubt in his mind but there was a constant nagging in the pit of his stomach.

Leon squinted as if trying to will the planet out of his sight ignoring its bright hues in swirling patterns, beautiful- yes but not his star. Before he noticed, the Biodome provided a sense of comfort but now it offered something more. He barely caught it the first time a silhouette moving across the starlit sky. Nearly thought he’d gone crazy but then it happened again and again.

It was only ever glimpses out of the corner of his eye. A little watcher staring down through the glass while he stared up. He wondered what they looked like, what life was in the endless darkness of outer space. So many questions left unanswered and the key too shy to reveal itself. Leon let his eyes flutter close shoulders shagging. Would they be massive? Like the creatures back home or small. Even smaller than me?

He stood from the hover bench his eyes snapping opening glancing around the emptiness. *Nothing.. yet.* The thought was bittersweet as he approached the glass, stopping only a foot away. A holographic barrier prevented getting any closer but heavens above did Leon want nothing more than to step over it. His eyes never looking away once as his ears strained to listen for anything out of the ordinary. “Come on, Star. Let me see you.” He spoke in a reverent whisper.

Then was movement, out of the corner of his eye. A shiver ran up his spine seeing the familiar shadow move in his peripherals, willing himself not to react immediately. A chance of a lifetime, his throat constricted tightly with a clash of emotions. Everything was just in reach, he was so, so close. “Let me see you, p-please..” He urged again gloved hands curling into tight fists. The leather crinkled as his nails dug into the material, an attempt to keep him grounded. He couldn’t afford to react irrationally when all he wanted was right there.
