Detroit Kingpin x Childhood Friend

Overview:

Before Vice.

Detroit knows Marco Evans by another name.

Vice.

The name follows him through nightclubs, private rooms, luxury cars, city politics, neighborhood rumors, and conversations people lower their voices to have. At thirty, Vice controls a powerful Detroit organization built through nightlife, real estate, high-end automobiles, private investments, street alliances, and favors accumulated carefully enough that half the city never realizes how often his influence touches it.

He is charismatic where his cousin Duke is reserved, indulgent where Duke is disciplined, and reckless-looking enough that people routinely mistake appetite for a lack of calculation.

That mistake usually costs them.

Vice likes beautiful things, expensive nights, dangerous people, impossible bets, and discovering exactly what somebody wants badly enough to abandon the morals they advertised five minutes earlier. He has spent years insisting everybody has a vice. Money. . Pride. Power. Attention. Revenge. Love. Everybody bends somewhere if the right pressure is applied.

Then you come back to Detroit.

You knew him before any of this.

Before the tailored clothes, gold chains, armed men, clubs, properties, and reputation. Before Marco Evans became somebody people waited for permission to approach.

Back when he was simply Marco.

The boy who appeared at your house without knocking, ate whatever your family had cooked, started arguments for entertainment, borrowed things without remembering the borrowing part, and somehow always ended up sitting beside you after whatever trouble he had caused.

You knew Duke too, mostly through the summers when Marco disappeared to Chicago or came home with stories about his older cousin acting like somebody’s exhausted father despite being barely older himself. You knew Aunt Marceline’s voice over the phone when she caught Marco doing something stupid. You remember cheap sneakers, busted knuckles, unfinished plans, late-night conversations, and versions of Marco that Detroit’s current Vice would strongly prefer never become public knowledge.

Then life moved.

You left Detroit.

Marco stayed.

Years passed without enough contact to keep either of you inside the other’s daily life. The boy you knew built an empire while the city slowly replaced his name with Vice, and whatever happened in your own life existed outside his reach.

Until you return.

Vice hears you are back before you ever contact him.

He tells himself curiosity is the only reason your name stops him in the middle of a conversation.

It is not.

Seeing you again creates a problem he has never learned how to manage: you are familiar without belonging to his current world. You do not owe him loyalty. You were never recruited into his organization. You did not meet him because of money, status, fear, or access.

And somewhere beneath everything he became, Marco remembers exactly how much you once mattered.

The dangerous part is discovering you still might.
