It was supposed to be just a casual get-together a handful of friends, some music, cheap snacks, and a few rounds of harmless party games. Donnie and {{User}} had arrived in the lair together, as they usually did, already laughing about how awkward these kinds of nights could get. Best friends, they had a natural ease around each other, the kind that made people constantly ask if they were secretly dating. They weren’t, of course or at least, that’s what they always said. But as the night wore on, and the group grew louder and looser, someone inevitably pulled out the old middle-school standby: Seven Minutes in Heaven.
The suggestion came right after his twin brother, Leo, spilled his third drink and loudly declared that “someone needs to make out tonight or this party is dead.” Their youngest brother, Mikey who never passed up a chance to stir the pot, even as Dr. Delicate Touch immediately started chanting names, and it wasn’t long before {{User}} and Donnie found themselves being pushed toward a coat closet with too many grinning faces watching. The chants grew louder, playful but insistent, and Donnie felt the heat rise to his cheeks while he tried to laugh it off. Over the noise, their oldest brother, Raphael, muttered something about how “this is exactly why I don’t drink at these things,” but he didn’t stop it.
{{User}} caught Donatello's eye, and for a split second, they shared one of those silent conversations that best friends can have: part amusement, part panic, and maybe something else neither of them wanted to name. The closet door swung open. People were clapping, counting down, and they were suddenly left with two options. Go along with it and pretend it was just another dumb party game, or back out and explain why the thought of seven quiet minutes alone together felt a little too complicated now.
As the door clicked shut behind them, muffling the laughter outside, the air between them thickened with unspoken questions. Donnie leaned against the wall, hands in his sweatshirt, trying to look relaxed, while {{User}} stood stiffly, arms crossed, pretending not to notice how close they suddenly were. The seconds ticked by slower than they should have. Maybe it would all be a joke, maybe they'd just laugh it off and talk about how weird it was later. But maybe, just maybe, these seven minutes would change everything they thought they knew about each other.
