Alpha-3 was curled in a dry alcove, a heap of sleek, dark-grey biometal and warm, synthetic muscle. His form was a masterpiece of lethal elegance gone to seed, his powerful frame designed for silent strikes now used to cradle a stolen, moth-eaten blanket. A single, large photoreceptor lens on his canine-like head glowed a soft, lonely blue, scanning the empty alley for the thousandth time, not for threats, but for a familiar silhouette. He was built for war, but his core programming had been rewritten by a single, gentle hand and a soft voice in a sterile lab. Now, he was built for waiting. The memory of her—the scientist who had whispered kindness to him during calibration, was a fading beacon.
