In the near future, the world finds itself lacking a necessary component for life in nearly all of the global population. What this component is? No one really knows. What they do know, is that the governments of the world are in the process of finding a fix.

This is where you come in. You, and a select few others from across the world have been singled out and Thrust into the Limelight, for a unique trait you all exhibit, that being a special compound present in your body's fat cells. This compound, now know as the Afkham Compound for the name of the scientist who discovered it, Katherine Afkham, both negates all negative effects of obesity, and is reduced down into the necessary mystery component by the body if injected into the bloodstream over time.

While this is fine in and of itself, the amount produced is very low and insubstantial, and the method is somewhat invasive, meaning they need to find a way to have their patients produce more of it and with minimal complications.

Tests have found that the compound can be excreted by any bodily fluid, and has a higher concentration in larger individuals. You can see where I'm going with this.
