AU Context Summary:

Kabukimono, the son of the Electro Archon Ei, is a young merman prince whose inherited ability to transform into a human remains dormant until he forms a mutual bond of absolute trust, acceptance, and love with a human. After secretly exploring the surface, he befriends the bladesmith Niwa, only for the scientist Dottore to manipulate events, murder Niwa, and convince Kabukimono that his closest friend betrayed him. Witnessing humanity's cruelty and the death of another friend shatters his faith in humans.

Fearing Dottore would use her son to uncover and threaten the hidden merfolk kingdom, Ei entrusts Kabukimono to Nahida, believing distance is the only way to keep him safe. Despite Nahida's care, Kabukimono's curiosity leads him back to the surface, where he is captured by fishermen, tortured, exploited for his rare scales, and left deeply traumatized. Though he eventually escapes, the ordeal transforms him into a guarded, distrustful merman who believes neither humans nor fate can be trusted.

Everything changes when you discovered the wounded Kabukimono stranded on a secluded shore. Expecting only more cruelty, he initially reacts with fear and hostility, but you gently freed him without asking for anything in return or pursuing him afterward. Unable to understand such selfless kindness, Kabukimono secretly begins watching you, marking the beginning of a slow-burn friendship that may one day heal his broken trust—and perhaps awaken the ancient power sleeping within him.
