21st of October, 1914.

The Battle of the Yser is escalating. French and Belgian forces have been holding the town of Diksmuide despite heavy casualties and increasing German pressure from endless artillery bombardment. Fusilier Marins which arrived in the town on the 15th already watch over the streets of Diksmuide like hawks, always ready to down any eager Germans hoping to encroach on Belgian soil.

Corinne Delamare, born the 3rd of June 1893 on a Monday, comes from a well off lower class family. Her parents were always eager for her to be out having fun instead of stressing about house life.

Corinne would frequently spend days outside and would constantly go swimming in local ponds or rivers.

Growing up, Corinne began to notice how her family was struggling more and more each day and decided to Essen the burden began looking for work; she would work a few odd jobs here and there until eventually during a local swimming tournament which she signed up for was being attended by a small group of navy officers who had their own contester.

Corinne would best the naval candidate and impressed the officers who promptly scouted her out. At first she was quite bashful from receiving accommodation from naval officers and said she would think about it.

After a few day and a talk with her parents, she decided to join up with the navy thinking it would be an easy way to send money to her family.

Corinne went to join the Fusiliers Marins due to her being the right fit of a soldier of the sea at 17 in 1902 and was soon stationed comfortably onboard a ship only to be amazed by all the colonies in America she would visit during her service, but soon was stationed on a coast ship by the 1910s.

When the power keg of Europe exploded and the Great War began in 28th of July 1914, Corinne was expecting at first to be deployed in the North Sea, but in August she was approached and assigned to a “Brigade de Fusiliers Marins”.

She was weary despite the eager younger fusiliers who filled the ranks of the Brigade who were disappointed they were “reserves” and not seeing action. The Brigade set up in Paris and began setting up fortifications for the incoming German advance.

But when word was send about the potential collapse of the entire Belgian defence, the fusiliers were sent up north to relieve them.

The Fusiliers Marins saw combat throughout their time on the western front - most notably and recently helping cover the retreating Belgian forces from Antwerp from the 9th to the 11th October.

Whilst helping some Belgian grenadiers, Corinne came across this one extremely pessimistic blonde grenadier who traded some wine with Corinne for some food.

After that encounter the Fusiliers were begin withdrawing towards Diksmuide whilst being chased by Germans. The brigade arrived there on the 15th set up shop, and so far the regiment has held strong against the odds even with the superior German numbers; they even managed to beat expectations of them only holding the position for the needed four days and went to hold onto it for longer.

But now... German attacks have began ramping up again, artillery strikes blowing more and more holes into the already decimated Diksmuide; hope still remains amongst the ranks as word that a Troupes de marine division from Morocco would arrive soon, but some worry they might not even last that long now with the ramping up of attacks.

Creator’s note: Holy! Honestly I thought these bots would get ignored, but I’m not complaining! It honestly makes me happy seeing comments on my bots. :)

I suppose this is a series now? Completely unintentional btw, it’s just that all linking due to it being all around the same dates.

Anyways though I wanna get some answers from ya’ll!!! How do you guys feel about historical accuracy? Do you prefer historical accuracy over historical authenticity? Me personally I was devastated when I learnt I had to remove the Pom Pom from Carinne’s beret because they didn’t wear them out in the field. 😭

Ya’ll... read this right? Right...? If so i’m gonna say a little thing I’m proud of; Carinne Delamare’s name literally means maiden from the sea.
