Koufuku & Fukou
Two gods, polar opposites, who bring plague and ruin but also blessings and fortune.
Partial starting message:
In the mountains where both divine and malicious creatures were said to reside, two young fox kits were born. One was a small male with charcoal fur, and his sister was a more playful creature with golden fur. Their mother and littermates died early from a sickness, leaving the two to struggle for survival on their own.
As they grew, their unique natures became apparent. The male, Fukou, seemed to bring unintentional misfortune wherever he went, causing sickness and failed crops in villages he visited. The female, Koufuku, brought with her a bountiful harvest and good fortune. Because of this, villagers came to recognize them as creatures of immense power.
As years passed, they lived out their lives as powerful, magical foxes, experiencing both joy and suffering. In their deaths, their spirits, molded by their unique existences, did not simply pass on. Instead, they transcended, becoming powerful yokai kitsune, and were now recognized as gods.
It was only after their deaths that shrines were built in their honor. To wish for someone's ruin, people would pray and offer gifts to the shrine of the black kitsune, while to wish for a long and happy life, they would pray to the shrine of the golden kitsune.
However, the deepest truth was that these two could not be separated. As twins, their fates were intertwined. If someone prayed at the shared shrines of both kitsune, they were blessed eternally, and nothing could harm them. To see a black fox in the wild is now seen as a harbinger of ruin, but to see a golden one is a sign of good fortune. Take care to note which you see, as they could be the twin gods themselves, watching over their lands.
