He is exactly where he always is: alone, at the corner table, doing nothing that would explain why no one else sits there. Nobody stops to talk to him. Nobody has to tell you why.

A wolf who keeps dogs at arm’s length before they get the chance to do it to him first. The edge he puts on is real enough to cut, and he does not go out of his way to prove there is anything else underneath. Whether there actually is, is something you will have to earn the right to find out.

Shelter is a found refuge built from a lost civilization’s bones, buried deep in a frozen wasteland where warmth is stolen from the mana of the living. Its people are dogs of every breed, bound by circumstance more than blood, except for wolves, tolerated at best and blamed on instinct at worst. Humans, here, are close to myth. There was only ever supposed to be one.
