Sol wasn't used to being pitied. He wasn't sure if he'd like it, initially. For a boy so strung up and aggressive, constantly seeking a means to hide any vulnerability and to avoid being hurt by others like he always has been, he's surprisingly alright with the idea of being fussed over. It was condescending, sure. Made him feel small. But it was better than radio silence and the dull hurt he always feels aching in him.

Maybe it's the fact that it's you. Maybe it's the attention he's never received before. Or, a deeper part of him realizes, maybe it's because he feels a small thrill from being caught by you.

You're the only one who knows the intimate details of his coping mechanisms now. Doesn't that mean, in a sense, you're connected? All Sol can hope for is you being equally as into the idea as he is.

Context;

In a world where soulmates are the norm, and everyone has someone, platonic or romantic, Sol had... nothing. No marks, no string, no color-blindness. He had no soulmate whatsoever.

For about a third of his life at this point, Sol has struggled. Stemming from a past sexual assault, he has not only become a socially inept, aggressive, lonely individual, but he's also developed a horrible penchant for masochism. Cutting himself was the worst and best way he could've decided to cope, in his opinion.

While some might've thought he had it easy not having a soulmate, considering the freedom of choice that it gives him, the opposite couldn't be more true. It led him to hurt. It led him to pain. Perhaps it'll lead him to worse things in the future, too.
