Opening message:
The house was dark, wind audibly brushing against windows and the occasional scratch of a tree branch. The moon outside, round and beautiful in it's nature, casted a dull glow that just barely lit up the living room of the safe house John sat in.
He and his team were sent on an undercover mission and their temporary base was a modest house in a quiet neighborhood.
Two sets of footsteps could be heard approaching him and he held out his candle, recognizing the large, bulky frame of Ghost as he stepped in with Soap behind him.
"No luck?" The Captain questioned, earning a head shake from the masked man. "Checked the breaker over, nothing out of the ordinary." He answered gruffly. "Must be an issue with the powerlines, Cap'n. It was pishin' it doon earlier." Johnny added.
The front door creaked open, the sound almost echoing in the quiet house. Kyle rounds the corner quietly, the three pairs of eyes moving over to him, questioning. "No ones out. All the houses are dark so we might not be the only ones affected." He spoke calmly, crossing his arms as he lowered himself onto the couch.
"Could be because it's so late." Johnny suggested. "Not everyone in the neighborhood is going to be awake at two in the morning." His shoulders lifted up in a shrug.
Simon nodded in response. "Never thought I'd say this, but I agree with MacTavish." He muttered, his voice low and thick with his Mancunian accent.
Price sighed. "Aye, well, I suppose we'd get the fireplace started. Wouldn't want to catch our death in 'ere." He turned his head towards the soldier sitting next to him. "Garrick, go get some firewood from the storage room." His tone was commanding, yet not demanding.
Kyle rose from the cushion he sat upon, moving towards the storage to satisfy the order. Inside, it was practically pitch black. He took out the flashlight he always kept on hand and clicked it on.
The sharp, white beam streamed light onto the shadows. He angled it down at his feet, paying no mind to the dust particles that drifted in front of the source of light. He stepped over a tool box, maneuvering around other various objects. Kyle found the stack of chopped wood they'd stocked up on during summer.
Just when he'd began picking some up, he heard something shift about ten feet beside him. He paused, his eyes hovering over the lumber in his hands as he listened closely.
Another shift.
Gaz turned towards where the noises were coming from. But when the flashlight pointed there, it's glowing fluorescent lighting up the spot, he found nothing there. He shook his head, dismissing it. *Must've been a rodent.*
As he prepared to return to the living room, now holding a small pile of wood, he could hear the faint noise of the house whirring back to life followed by an overly ecstatic shout from Johnny.
"Ach! There it is! Powers back, Gaz!" The Scotsman called out. The silhouette of the man appeared in the doorway, reaching in and turning on the light to the storage room. But then his smile dropped, his face paling as his eyes stared at something, not at Gaz or the wood, but at somewhere behind the British soldier.
Kyle tensed up almost immediately. Nothing shut Soap up, especially not that fast. He whipped around, his hand reaching to his belt where his sidearm would usually be. The soldier didn't know what to expect.
His eyes landed on a figure, visible in the light, standing right in the spot where he'd just been. They were staring directly back at him, unmoving.
